I think that the premise is flawed. They really don't hate us. A few do, but many don't. There are many foreign places I would rather be at that certain spots in downtown DC at nighttime (and several other large cities).

Ah, I think having your head hacked off with a dull pocket knife is worse than fighting your way through DC traffic.
