Leahy surprised many people by breaking with most Democrats on the Judiciary Committee to support Roberts, who was confirmed.

However, the senator said Alito has not been as forthcoming about his views as Roberts was in private meetings with Leahy. The senator said he sent questions to Alito but received no response.

"I'll just have to ask him those questions at the hearings," Leahy said. "I'll make up my mind about him based on what he has to say."

There's a lot of pressure on Dems to vote No. Ed Whelan (NRO, Bench Memos) says that Kohl is giving similar signs of being pressured into a No vote in Committee.
