3 Ft. Carson soldiers among those killed in weekend helicopter crash
The Colorado Springs Gazette ^ | 11/09/06 | Tom Roeder

Posted on 01/09/2006 11:04:20 PM PST by GovGirl

Three of the 12 Americans killed in an Army helicopter crash in Iraq were soldiers from Fort Carson, multiple sources confirmed Monday.

The soldiers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment were passengers aboard the helicopter, which was assigned to a different unit, said sources who have been briefed on the crash.

The Army on Monday said it’s too early to say what caused the crash, which happened just after midnight Sunday outside Tal Afar, a city in northwest Iraq near the Syrian border.

Wire news services have reported that there was severe weather in the area at the time of the crash. The helicopter, a UH-60 Blackhawk was flying between Mosul and Tal Afar on a mission for the 101st Airborne Division, the Army said. Those killed included eight soldiers and four American civilians.

A spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division said the names of those killed in the crash and information about their units isn’t being released.

“The casualty notification process is still under way, and getting specific on the unit that aircraft belonged to would harm that process for the families of the air crew,” Lt. Col. Ed Loomis wrote in an e-mail from Iraq on Monday morning.

I know there were some other people looking for updated information on this besides myself. I still haven't heard from my boyfriend in the 3rd ACR, so if anyone has further updates, please share them here or in the original post HERE.

No Ft. Campbell soldiers in downed Blackhawk

Four were from Alaska
UNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The helicopter that crashed Saturday near the Iraqi town of Tal Afar, killing all 12 people on board, was an Alaska Army National Guard helicopter, according to Gov. Frank Murkowski’s office.

Four crewmembers of 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, Alaska Army National Guard, are among the dead. Their names will be released pending next-of-kin notification.

SC Officer in Crash
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP & WCSC) - Arsenio Domingo, a police officer from Charleston, was among twelve people killed when their helicopter crashed in Iraq over the weekend.

3 members of ACR from Ft. Carson

I don't know if all these sources are completely accurate. They aren't listed by name on the DOD website yet. I am praying with you. *HUGS!*

I pray you will hear from your boyfriend soon and that he is alright. Star found some preliminary information here that looks good. Even with your boyfriend OK, he will have lost some brothers, which is hard on them, and we all mourn this terrible loss.

God bless you and keep you. Please let us know what you hear.

I still haven't heard anything. I don't think their communications have been turned back on yet. They still haven't posted the full list of casualties, so they probably haven't been able to get a hold of loved ones as quickly as they (or my impatient self) would like.

I guess I'll have to curl up in my 3rd ACR blanket and eat mind numbing amounts of ice cream and junk food and assume that since I haven't heard anything yet, that he's okay.

This sucks.

KET, what squadron is your son in? The bf is in RHHT.

Storming the gates of Heaven for Brian and all the guys in the 3rd. Praying that you would have heard something by now. At least his wife would surely have been told something by now since she is at Ft. Carson. I can't believe it would take this long for notification. I know it must be making you crazy K.

1st Lt. Joseph D. deMoors, 36, of Jefferson, Ala. deMoors was assigned to the Army's 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.

The incident is under investigation.

For further information related to this release, contact Army Public Affairs at (703) 692-2000.

My heart and prayers go out to the families of these brave soldiers. Waiting to hear word is never easy, but it's nothing compared to getting that midnight phone call or visit. May these Army National Guardsmen, the Brave Rifles of the 3rd ACR, the Army Reservist, and the four civilian passengers aboard rest in peace. God bless those who grieve for them, whether they be family by blood or family by choice.

Breathe a sigh of relief and then say a prayer for the families of these young heros. There is no harder news to bear. May the lord give them something that will give them a measure of comfort.
