That's because everything they've learned about guns came from Hollywood and the news media, and if there is anyone else more clueless about firearms I hope to never meet them. Thanks to Hollywood, the average liberal "knows" that when a person gets shot with a 9mm pistol round, his body is flung across the room with such force that he'll blow through any windows behind him, that if someone is firing a "machine gun" at you you'll be okay if you duck behind an empty 55-gallon drum because the bullets will just bounce off it, that anyone can score a 10-ring hit on a target 1000 yards away firing a .38 Special snub nose from the hip, etc.
