Stalin jumped into the war against Japan at the last minute, when his help was not needed, and snatched these islands up. I fail to see why Russia deserves to keep them.

We paid a far bigger price, but we have returned our conquests to Japan.

Putin would not want to appear to appease the Japanese.

He might offend his Chi-com comrades.

The Soviets destroyed a 1 million man army in Manchuria (the same one they ravaged in 1939 in Mongolia). Furthermore, those islands were only Japanese after the 1905 Russo-Japanese war.

The same thing we're the russians, can say about the openinig the second front in the ww2 "at the last minute when his (yours)help was not needed" cause we've already done everything & the end of the war was predetermined. Japan was an ally of Germany. We won that war & we have all rights for these lands. That's it.
