So do they have a competitive edge on storage space? Do they hold more than other mp3 players?

I believe there is a Sony that holds as much as my iPod - but at the same time, the iTunes software that comes with the iPod is also excellent.

For storage, ease of use, etc. - I highly recommend it.

I don't have an iPod, but the way I look at 'em is that they're one of the better marketed mp3 players on the market. :)

I've never heard anybody complain about any of the iPods. Everybody who owns one seems to love it. They seem to be a bit better designed then most (as most Apple products are).

I owned a Rio 800, and I absolutely loved it, even though some files would cause it to lock up. For my birthday I received a Creative Zen Nano 1GB. I haven't put it through it's paces yet, and it seems to bulk sometimes while trying to move music files to it, but it seems like a good little device. If I had my druthers, I would have opted for an iPod Nano, just because it gets such high marks.

Is there anything significantly better than the iPod than other mp3 players? I don't think so. It just seems to be a solid, relaible, well loved little gadget.
