As Mexican citizens living abroad are gearing up to cast their votes for the first time in July 2006, the World Affairs Council of Northern California, the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University, and Bank of America are very pleased to co-host 2 debates in English on January 23rd in the San Francisco Bay area. The discussion will be between representatives from the 3 major Mexican political parties: the PRI, the PAN, and the PRD.
The debaters, each national leaders in their own right, will represent their respective parties’ policy ideas and solutions to the pressing issues in Mexico today. This program will highlight the issues framing U.S.-Mexico relations and the challenges facing each party in the up-coming election in July, when Mexicans will vote for all 500 seats in the Congress and all 128 seats in the Senate, in addition to electing the President.
The debates are the first and second of five debates to be held in California as part of “A Celebration of the Mexican Democracy: Who Should Be the Next President of Mexico” debate series held January 23-25, 2006. Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and San Diego will host debates three, four, and five.

Why are these people debating their election in my country?
Why not? We allow Iraqis to vote for their elections in our nation, as well as Frenchmen, Germans, Englishmen, and other nationals. For one reason or another which I can't fathom, there are a number of Mexican nationals living in the U.S. It makes perfect sense for their politicians to try to influence their voters in this nation. Since it's a private venue, you have no reasonable grounds for complaint.
Iraqis, Germans, Frenchmen, Englishmen, and other nationals -- voting -- in this country makes perfect sense and is just fine with me.
Having Mexican candidates debate in this country, on the other hand, makes no sense whatsoever. I know for a fact they have television stations with cameras and microphones in their country, right along with capital facilities, college/university campuses, etc. There's plenty of places in their own country to hold debates for the benefit of their own people. Personally, I'd vote for the guy who stayed home with his people over the guy who ran off to another country to debate over there.
I'm sick and tired of everyone coming here to enjoy our freedoms when they won't do a damn thing to improve their life at home. It falls under the same line as the guy on the corner begging for money month after month after month. I have no respect for someone who won't work for a living and expects everyone else to take care of them.
If you don't belong here, go back home already.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. Are the debates in English or just this article?
None of the countries you mention are aiding and abetting their citizens to invade America. Big difference. Plus the number of Mexicans voters here is huge. All the traitorous Hispanic TV and radio stations will be covering it so much you'll wonder what nation they are living in

As of late, there's prolly not enough literate people left in Mexico to man a good political debate.
Why are these people debating their election in my country?
Aren't the illegal Mexican immigrants in this country still able to vote in Mexico?
I've never heard of another country ACTUALLY debating in the US. If voters want to see the debate, let them watch on tv or head south!
I guess that makes the US part of Mexico now if they can hold their election debates in the US.
