You know, the U.S. has been fighting in the middle east for most of the last 15 years. We've fought two wars there, most of our ground force deployments have been there, it's been a central part of our planning for years. Every member of the Army and Marines is issued sets of desert utilities from the get-go because of the likelihood that they'll have to go there. So why is it that whenever you see pictures of our troops over there in almost every single case is their body armor green camouflage? Isn't that telling the opposition "OK, you can shoot him anywhere but the green part?" The fact that body armor isn't widely available in the color most likely to be used is an indication that it isn't a high priority item to the military.

There's a mixture of the woodland and desert camouflage IBA (individual body armor) vests. There hasn't been a really concentrated effort to get everyone outfitted with each color since the new Army Combat Uniform (ACU) has been in development practically since the war. Now, everyone will have the new digital camouflage pattern on their uniforms as well as their IBA and ammo pouches and CamelBaks, etc, etc.

Basically it's a cost-saving measure that will eventually be completely fixed across the entire Army.

Besides--haji can barely shoot straight. It takes an act of Allah for him to hit one of our guys (thankfully).

Body armor was most likely to be worn in exercises before this present war. The green plate carrier reflects that. Tons of green, camo and otherwise is purchased yearly. If there isn't a desert tan carrier available in YOUR size, do you forgo body armor use or opt for green?
