Lawson said he leveled with his recruiter, who told him "everything would be fine" as long as he stayed in the closet.

Dont ask dont tell ..he told the recruiter so the recruiter was guilty as well...

To assign sodomites to MI is a really dumb idea

imo

I've known gay guys that I'd trust with my life, who are great guys, who'd I'd be proud to serve with.

And, I've known drama queens that even the other gay guys wanted to beat up.

I figure that this guy being gay isn't the whole story here...

Critics of the Pentagon's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy say Lawson is one of hundreds of homosexuals harassed or assaulted each year, and say his story is a telling example of what's wrong with the ban on openly gay troops.

That is totally illogical. If the ban on openly gay troops was in force, then this guy wouldn't have been around to be assaulted.

I'm sorry, I don't buy this. I don't believe that his fellow soldiers are dying to kill him, or that they're lying in wait to kill him.

"one of hundreds of homosexuals..."

Okay, let's figure this out.

There are around 1.4 million Americans in the military. Assuming that 4% of the troops are gay/lesbian (we won't use the 10% that gay activists use) then that would be 70,000 gays and lesbians serving. If "hundreds" are mistreated it would be AT MOST 1 out of 70 having problems, and probably closer to, say, 1 out of 300 or so.

I'm saying that even among gays and lesbians the numbers of those mistreated are probably lower than those mistreated at the local bar on Saturday night.

Just tell your gay friends, another "gift" from YOUR president. For me, the whole issue merits a big Tango Sierra, but I served '67 - '70 when sanity was still popular.

Well, he's in the right spot.

What a steaming load of Bravo Sierra! This article is almost as slanted as something out of Army Times - which happens to be owned by the ultra-liberal Gannett News Service.

I lost count of the lies, distortions and blatant omissions somewhere around the middle of the article.

There are also individuals that are in denial about their own sexuality. Some of them resort to violence, as a means to prove to themselves they are not.

I don't buy any part of this.

First off, the MI corps is the most tolerant part of the military, as far as sexual behavior goes. I think he's overstating the level of hostility he encountered.

Second, why one Earth would anyone fear their co-workers in an MI unit. I mean, come on, they're MI guys. What are they going to do, slap fight him to death? :-)

Or they become sheepherders, move to Wyoming, lie to their wives to get out of the house, and meet to canoodle beneath the stars. Right?

My best college room mate was openly gay. My worse was a guy that came out of the clost 10 years later. Go figure.

I don't know about all branches, but I know that the Air Force definitely frowns upon beating up anyone who isn't the enemy for any reasons.

I don't even believe the weather reports in Red Star and Soviet Citizen, our two local commie dungrags. Beware of lies and subterfuge here.

"But I can't deny who I am anymore. I thought I could do it, but I can't," said Lawson, who said he agreed to an interview so the public can see how the policy affects people.

He told me and I didn't even ask. Why's he need to request a discharge? Shouldn't he be booted out?

This guy couldn't even make it through his training track without effervesing his gayness and it's the Army's problem?

Highly doubtful that an assault resulted in a mere liberty restriction.
