Gingrich Blasts Republican "Teamwork"

Newt Gingrich, the original architect of the Republican Revolution, is obviously dismayed to see his handiwork going up in flames. Even so, the force with which Newt is blasting his party's corruption woes is surprising. As he told Bloomberg: The Abramoff scandal has to be seen as part of a much larger and deeper problem. It's not about lobbyist corruption. You can't have a corrupt lobbyist without a corrupt member or corrupt staff. This was a team effort.

There are a series of behaviors, a series of attitudes, a series of crony-like activities that are not defensible, and no Republican should try to defend them. The danger for Republicans is to pretend this isn't fundamental or to pretend that they can get by passively without undertaking real reform.

I think Gingrich needs to STFU! The last thing we need is for Republicans to help the media turn this into a Republican "scandal". And just exactly what reform happend under his watch?

Corrupt politicians are corrupt politicians. While the Dems will try and spin it, we need to do the right thing and be fair. If Republicans broke the law, they need to be punished. If Democrats broke the law, they need to be punished. I have no time for a corrupt politician of any party, regardless of what their politics are.

I'm for cleaning out ALL corrupt politicians--R or D. But Gingrich is so obviously playing up to a certain image in order to get more publicity as a "centrist". "He was once the hard right creator of the Contract With America, but now..." blah blah blah.

"I think Gingrich needs to STFU!"

Certainly the most unattractive Republican on the planet.

Gingrich, Rich Lowry, and Ed Rogers, a "Republican" strategist, that I saw on Hairball tonight...

have ALL in the last day, taken a 4 foot wide paint brush, and just smeared blood red paint over the whole GOP Congress...

WITHOUT ANY evidence of illegal activity by any of them...

Except, Duke Cunningham...and he pled guilty...

BTW..on Hairball...there was a Newsweak reporter that is putting in a story that Duke Cunningham, wore a WIRE, as part of his way to get a shorter prison sentence.

Chrissy was SURE he was wired to catch Congresscritters...but the reporter said he didn't know WHO Cunningham supposedly recorded.

Do you have time to find out who, if any actually broke the law, before trying to run them out of town???

Because if you are willing to wait until there is actual evidence of wrongdoing, then you aren't on the same wavelength as Gingrich...IMHO

"You can't have a corrupt lobbyist without a corrupt member or corrupt staff. This was a team effort.

That's all that has to be said about this.

"Republicans" have been the majority and controlling party for SIX YEARS.

I would rather have crooked 'Rats running Washington than crooked Republicans.

My party is better than this.

(my flame suit is in the washing machine)

Thank you. Principles are tough, but we must hold to them especially when it isn't easy - that's when we need them the most.

I am willing to wait for evidence of wrongdoing before I call for anyone to resign or be punished. I just don't think that we'll have to wait that long to see it.

To be honest, I don't think you killed all the innocent politicians in Washington and used them as carpet, you'd barely have enough to cover your living room floor.

So, there it is. It's true. I think politicians, by and large, are crooks and thieves. If they need to feel some harsh discipline every now and then to keep them in line, I'm okay with that.

Of course, we need to be sure that no Democrats get off the hook, and that they don't paint this as Republicans only. It's easy to do. There's more R's than D's, so if the bribed-to-party ratio is the same, then who cares if there are more R's being bribed. It just means that whoever's in power is taking money. I mean seriously, why bribe people who can't do anything for you?

The public sees both parties as corrupt.
Both parties are corrupt...we live in an era of corruption in all levels of government.

Hopefully they'll see only the Republicans actually attempting to do something about it
What we'll see is both parties playing the CYA game.
