I notice that every time a science thread comes up, someone bitches and moans that they hope their tax money didn't go to pay for the research. Evidently, those folks don't understand that every little bit of research, even if it's just a confirmation of "conventional wisdom," adds to the overall body of knowledge and makes further research possible, even if it's in fields that appear unrelated at first glance.

For instance, this research gives us a clue into the workings of the human brain, which put together with all the other research in the field, gives us a clearer picture on brain function, which could lead to treatments for various disorders.
