NBC has come a long way down since "The Bill Cosby Show".

I hate to admit it, but I can finally relate to the French. In the past I heard the stories about how “they” are and rolled my eyes. They’re supposed to be rude towards Americans. With the extra poundage, the funny looking money, and a complete rejection of the notion that they should learn the language, Americans just don’t fit in downtown Paris. Le Big Mac? EuroDisney? No wonder the French are protective of their language, some things just don’t translate. I understand that now. I am someone who tries to have a Biblical outlook on life. I guess Tim Russert would classify me as an “Evangelical”. I too have a culture and a language I want to protect.

You remember the last presidential election, the one where the “Evangelicals” cost the Democrats the election? In the six months following that election I’ve noticed a lot more visitors pretending to “reach out” and “fit in”.

Of course, there have always been these types of things. A few years ago one of the networks had a movie about “The Flood”. I guess it was supposed to have been based on the Biblical account. About the same time I remember there was another show about Cleopatra. Guess what movie was more historically accurate? You see, in TV-land, Sodom doesn’t have Sodomites and Noah wasn’t the only one with an ark, and never mind about the timeline.

One would think the producers could have hired some native speakers to guide them through their producing. But like the rude visitors they were, they didn’t bother. They had the money, the script, and the ugly shorts and you could tell they didn’t understand half of what they were trying to say about Noah’s Ark.

Since then all kinds of politicians, entertainers, and newsmen have been saying all kinds of things that native speakers can tell, came straight out of the “Conversational Christianity in 20 Easy Lessons” traveler’s handbook. And that’s ok, I guess. I suppose it’s good to have visitors and people interested, so long as they don’t kid themselves about where they are from.

They say things that just don’t make sense to the native speakers. And not only do they say it with a straight face, but they smile ignorantly and expect their audience to agree. Gay marriage, government funded abortions, Revelations the mini-series, “regional” correspondents from the New York Times, and high-profile soon to be presidential candidates are all, now, wide-eyed and in our faces, nodding and speaking far too loudly to be taken seriously. I’m not convinced they’re here with our best interests in mind.

And now 'The Book of Daniel' which NBC advertises as a mockery of everything Christian while at the same time telling critics to wait until they see it because it's a serious Christian drama. Once again, something has been lost in the translation. But the visitors haven't stopped long enough to realize they don't own the ground they are treading upon.

It's the same thing that Hollywood tried back in the late 80's when they made the blasphemous "Last Temptation of Christ," and then the left tried again a few years later to pass off a Crucifix in a jar of urine as "art." The left views Christianity as the greatest threat to their agenda, even greater than capitalism, the attacks will continue until one group or the other is destroyed.

I don't understand why anyone would be afraid of this show. Surely true believers are confident enough in their faith that a silly drama or comedy (I really don't know which it is) isn't going to influence them.

Hold it.

First, who's afraid of this show? I don't see any indication that anyone is afraid. What I see is an indication that the people who spend their lives worshipping Jesus think He should be treated with respect. What I see is some people wondering why any business would be stupid enough to launch a project that revolves around an insulting portrayal of 80% of their audience. What evidence do you have that my assessment is wrong?

Second, why is it that Christians are the only group that's considered hysterical when they don't like being given the finger? Why is a dislike of being given the finger seen as evidence of fear and "synthetic outrage" when we exhibit it, when only an idiot would expect Jews to sit for a Junkie Rabbi or Bhuddists to sit for the Bhudda telling a monk that drug dealers are good kids?

Censorship is bad.

It's only censorship if the government does it. No offense, but not being smart enough to know that is also bad.

Trying to censor something so that others might want to see it is bad.

I'm watching the show right now, its interesting, not fantasitc, its a pilot episode, so there is a good deal of exposition, but a good cast. I'll give it a few more watchings.

I never would have watched, except for all the furor.

I really dread the weekends, when that McCuddy comes on. I don't think there is a lower calling than a celebrity gossip columnist, unless it's a mime, or a "democratic strategist." When McCuddy or Geraldo come on, they either get muted, or I switch to The Military Channel.

NBC calls it "courageous," but they wouldn't have the "courage" to offend Islam. They only have the "courage" to offend law-abiding, peaceful Christians.

This is an outstanding letter. It states some very logical reasons for a local affliate not to show "The Book of Daniel.

The program’s main characters include Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest; his alcoholic wife; his son, a 23-year-old homosexual Republican; his daughter, a 16-year-old drug dealer; a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter; his lesbian secretary who is sleeping with his sister-in-law; and a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus who reassures the priest that his drug-dealing daughter and promiscuous son are good kids.

In short, Hollywood is presenting Jesus as a sleazy morally bankrupt lounge lizard -- how charming... If you're not boycotting Hollywood, now's the time to start.

Homosexuality is the push for the soul into depravity. Once the soul is depraved it is also degenerate and degenerating into further depravity ... the sort of depravity that demands to be accepted as 'normal', just another 'alternate lifestyle', and the Network promoting such depraved minds as the writer(s) for such garbage is suspect as run by depraved minds. Look what this nation has and is reaping from voting a depraved man and his twisted wife and power brokers into highest leadership ... NBC will not 'go under' for this leap into further depravity, but it will feed more depravity for the almighty buck.

You are not a Christian, are you?

I came upstairs and it was already on, and so decided to watch. In a word, it was sick. A minister who got a pre-screening said it best -- "they are representing the absurd as normal."

I am a born again Christian. I have been one for twenty-eight years. I went to a Christian college. This is NOT a Christian program; It appears the characters are NOT Christians.

I am offended to be represented in this way.
