I like the 308 round better than the 30-30. However, a 30-06 is a pretty universal round for big game in the continental US. Everything from antelope to moose or bear.

You don't see a lot of those at the range but it's a damn fine hunting rifle.

That's a very cheap gun. Cheap as in inexpensive. I've got one, it's a great gun for little dough. Never given me any problems.
Of course I don't hunt; I use it for target practice and plinking. More satisfying to shoot than my mini 14 since it has that The Rifleman action going on...
