We are starting to detect a number of people who are using Social Security numbers of persons who are deceased, or whose identity has been stolen. HELLO OFFICER MCFLY! Care to guess how long thats been going on?
To: John Jorsett
"Goodin and Cleveland said the state needs to put up signs at license branches to warn people that if they try to use a stolen identity they will be arrested."
Why?
To: GoforBroke

You can stop a Hispanic and check a drivers license, but they usually have a Mexican drivers license, he said. They generally say they are visiting the country, and theres no way to prove otherwise. I can figure out how to do it. Just ask "Show me your visa" and if they don't have one, deport them.

The woman, Linda Sanches, 33, moved to came illegally to Charlestown from Mexico City in 2001, and shortly thereafter obtained the a fake Social Security number from a Mexican national who told her the number was "clean.""She has been gainfully illegally employed the entire time she has been here," Cleveland said.
To: DumpsterDiver
isn't having forged documents, against the law and punishable with jail time?
guess not, if one is illegally in this nation....

???
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose? Apparently they don't really want to catch these people.
To: Pessimist
uh oh, you too are a candidate for overhead black choppers.
(heavy sarcasm)
now don't go figuring out what you don't need to be figuring out, okay?

The system went into operation last fall and has resulted in a number of arrests of people who are using invalid Social Security numbers. The Feds'll put a stop to this.
It's unfair to illegal aliens to prevent them from using your SNN.

I know Sgt. Goodin. Believe me, he's not at all interested in preventing the use of Social Security numbers from deceased persons by illegals. He is a media hound and this is just another way for him to get media time. His brother is in the state legislature and he hasn't spoken out or done anything about this problem. Not denying it is a serious problem here in southern Indiana but nothing will be done about it by the state police. Drugs are also are very problematic in this area but very little is being done about it. Illegals and drugs get worse by the year even though the federal government has invested a ton of money in local law enforcement. My county doesn't want to clean up the problem because it would mean they could no longer justify getting grants. Without the grants they couldn't not keep their pals in jobs.

Its becoming a problem, Goodin said. We are starting to detect a number of people who are using Social Security numbers of persons who are deceased, or whose identity has been stolen. No, it's been a problem. You're just now catching on to it.
