Gagauz human rights activist: I am ashamed for Voronin’s actions towards Russia

Gagauz human rights activist, Head of the Independent Human Rights and Informational Analytic Center Ivan Burgudji commented on the actions of Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin undertaken because Moldavia did not want to pay for the Russian gas at the international tariffs, reports a REGNUM correspondent.

“I as a Moldavian citizen am ashamed for actions and statements made by Mr.Voronin towards Russia on gas issue. To my mind, his actions are worse than actions of an illiterate shepherd. How can he state that the gas price of $160 proposed by Russia is not market price, while it is clear to any pupil in Gagauzia that demand determines supply. Mr.Voronin is so active in calling us to the European Union, promising manna from heaven, but for an unknown reason he does not want to pay European prices. If Voronin thinks the Russian gas price is not market, why does he allow the prices for meat rise so high at the Moldavian markets? Maybe these are not market prices, and he should abandon them? But no one sees any gestures from his side in solving this issue. Or does the Moldavian president, like his true masters, use even not double but triple standards? Mr.Voronin should be ashamed for playing dirty tricks on Russia and then accuse it. Before saying or doing something, you should have asked your people instead of cultivating fake democracy.”

What can one expect from the EU backed Communist Party of Moldova and its leader Voronin, who stole the elections but bent his knee to the EU to avoid a "color revolution" present from the EU.

If the situation with Moldova is anything like the one with Bulgaria, the Russians aren't such innocent victims. Russia is the sole supplier of natural gas to almost all of the Eastern European countries with the exception of the Checz Republic. In 1998 Russia pressured the Bulgarian gov't into signing a long term contract at the price of $120 which at the time was very profitable for the Russians. That contract is in effect until 2008 but with the rise of the energy prices the Russians decided all of a sudden to go "market" and want to change the price to $240. Of course, if the situation was reversed, they'd be the first ones to cry about the "contractual obligations." Unfortunately, the current Bulgarian government is led by the communists. Their fist allegiance is to Russia, so they'll just have every Bulgarian get the bucket of K-Y jelly and yell BOHICA (bend over, here it comes again).

It's all about the Benjamins. Anyone exporting NG and Oil right now are rolling in profits.

Crude is currently at $63 dollar a barrel when only a couple years ago it was less than half that.
