BORNE ANNOUNCES BID FOR STATE SENATE IN 8TH DISTRICT

Craig Borne of Perry Hall has announced that he will seek the Maryland Senate seat in the 8th district. He is the first Republican senate candidate to announce his intentions so far. The seat is currently held by Democrat Kathy Klausmeier who has not yet been challenged from within her party.

A civil rights attorney, Borne says he is anxious to get his campaign up and running. "I look forward to working closely with our Governor, Bob Ehrlich, on issues important to the families and the constituents of the 8th district. As parents of two young children, my wife and I realize that it makes a difference who represents our district in the State Senate. My background as a father, as a teacher at Parkville Middle School, and most recently as a civil rights attorney gives me a perspective on the best direction we should be taking in Annapolis- and it's not the direction the liberal leadership of the Senate and our current State Senator is taking us."

In looking forward, Borne said, "I want to return the 8th District Senate seat to the people of the 8th district, rather than the unquestioned allegiance to the liberal leadership of her party that Klausmeier has demonstrated. I will work every day to make Perry Hall a better, safer and more prosperous place for our families. I know how to face challenges and work hard to accomplish goals. The residents of the 8th district deserve the best representation and that is what I will give them."

Borne has been blind since he was 21 from a rare hereditary eye disease. He was the first blind teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools, first blind graduate in recent memory from the University of Baltimore School of Law School, and the first blind judicial clerk in the Baltimore County Circuit Court.

Craig and his wife Jean have been married for nine years and they have two young children. The Borne family attends St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Perry Hall and they are active members of the Kiwanis Club of Parkville.
