Seems to me they are doing ok....this was off CNN and is dated 2003. I'm sure the numbers are higher now.

My pay is pretty good, too. You just have to be careful how you spend and live within your means, just like everyone else.

The only sailors I know who are on food stamps are the ones who can't control their breeding habits. You cannot support a wife and four kids on a McDonald's salary, and you cannot support it on an E-4's salary either.

I guess I'm mostly talking about the E1-E5's who don't make a career out of it. The guys seem get most of the wounds or give all.

Whatever your pay, I think the government slaps you in the face by taxing the salaries of active duty military.
