Dropkick Murphys were in the studio in late January this year recording their new album when we heard the news about Sgt. Andrew Farrar's death. As mentioned in a previous newsletter we received a copy of the letter Andrew wrote to his mother before he passed away in which he asked that if anything should happen to him he wanted the Dropkick Murphys version of "Fields Of Athenry" to be played at his funeral. Excerpts from that letter were later incorporated into one of our new songs "Last Letter Home". After hearing the tragic news we offered to come to Andrew's funeral and perform "Fields Of Athenry" and we also recorded a new ballad style version of that song in Andrew's honor. There were only three copies made of that recording of "Fields Of Athenry"; one was placed in Andrew's casket, the second was given to his mother and the third was given to his wife. We recently heard about a memorial fund Andrew's family set up to benefit his two sons Liam & Tyler and thought we could help raise some money by releasing a copy of the recording we did for Andrew's funeral and donating 100% of the proceeds to the memorial fund. We have had numerous requests from people to hear a copy of the recording of this song, especially since we performed it live at some of our shows.

There will be a limited run of 2,500 copies of this CD single manufactured which will include two tracks; the ballad style version of "Fields Of Athenry" recorded in Sgt. Andrew Farrar's memory and "Last Letter Home" the song from the new album "The Warrior's Code" that incorporated parts of the letter Andrew wrote to his mother.

If you would like to guarantee you will get a copy of the CD you can pre- order and pay for one today to ensure delivery. Expected shipping date is September 26th 2005. The CD's are $10 each plus shipping/handling charges.

All the proceeds from the sales of this CD single will be donated to the Sgt. Andrew Farrar Memorial Fund. If you don't wish to purchase a CD or can not afford the $10 please make a donation for whatever you can afford to;

I'm not exactly sure how to do a thread like this, but I heard this story today and thought maybe FR could help the effort. The shipping date is several months old now, so maybe the discs have already sold out. I figure it's worth a try, though.

Meanwhile, here's a link to a memorial story about Sgt. Farrar:
