WASHINGTON Democrats called for congressional hearings into mine safety and regulation enforcement after an explosion and collapse in West Virginia killed 12 miners and left another critically injured.

Under Bush, the Mine Safety and Health Administration has worked more closely with mine owners than under previous presidents, according to union officials. The government has formed formal "partnerships" between companies and agency officials and is shying away from imposing heavy fines and sanctions, said Phil Smith, a spokesman for the United Mine Workers of America. Workers at Sago Mine do not belong to a union.

"They've gone from being an agency that enforces the regulations and puts penalties in, to something that's a lot more almost touchy-feely," Smith said.

It's already happening - it's Bush's fault the mine collapsed. He and his cronies in 'Big Mining' looked the other way so they could make millions!

Bush Lied, the Miners Died

It was a matter of time, wasn't it? No tragedy will go un-politicized with this bunch. Sick, just sick.

Great find OldFriend. Got a reference for that? Unfortunately some blogger will have to write an article revealing this as it won't appear in the MSM.

Nope. According to NPR report this morning, the MSHA was much tougher during Bubba's reign.

The drumbeat will begin.

Bush's fault.

If Geena Davis were President, the mine would've never collapsed.

Our liberial newspaper in Portland obviously didn't get the memo blaming President Bush. The editors are still blaming the evil capitalistic owners who forced a non-union shop down the exploited workers throats.

The Dems are very good at taking corrective action after the horse is already out of the barn, except in the case of terrorism, of course.

I want the democrats to go with this very dumb political move and blame President Bush for the death of the 12 miners in West Virginia because it will absolutely guarantee that more and more people are going to be disgusted with their lies, distortions, and utter hate for President Bush.

Democrats call for hearings into mine safety

LOL!

Desperation City!

My cat disappeared overnight. That's not like him.
I wonder if the Dems can arrange to schedule Congressional hearings about that...

Yes, DUmmies out there, I realize that my cat is not as important as the lives of a dozen miners, but I totally do not expect grandstanding to fix that mining safety problem.

Yep, as well as the NO levy breaking, all illegal immigrants here for the last 30 years, the shuttle disaster, east coast floods, 9-11, North Korea getting nukes, Europe's disdain for the US, aids in Africa and San fran, etc etc.

Can't think of any problem in the world that is not GWB's fault.

If Geena Davis were President, she would have prevented Jeff Goldblum from going into the transporter with that fly.....

Holy Christ! The bodies of these poor men are not even cold and the Democrats are already dancing on their graves. These people just can't help themselves can they?

I have heard several speculate that lightning may have caused the explosion. If Bush can control hurricanes, a single lightning strike would be a piece of cake.
