I returned from France in June of this year after spending a few weeks there. I didn't run into any of these situations, but often I saw horribly misbehaving kids of black/muslim origin on the trains, and the parents weren't doing anything about it. Except for when I grabbed the kid and told him to stop. In fact, I didn't see many Arabs over there at all. The only non-French I saw was when I was walking through Paris, saw a bunch of homeless blacks laying on the street. It was quite reassuring.

My trips to Paris/France were 50s' 60s' 70s' vintage - quite enjoyable - glad I got it out of the way then.
My mother took my daughter to France for a couple of weeks 2 years ago. I wasn't concerned at the time, this was before the war and all these stories, and my mother is French and is over there often. (She also spent her childhood in Cairo and is not ignorant about North Africans/muslims et al).
If she was to offer that trip to her today it would be a tough decision. Europe is becoming more dangerous IMHO, and in a weird unpredictable kind of way.
I regularly change planes at Charles De Gaulle airport on my way to eastern Europe. It always seems to me that the counter personnel are the only European looking (i.e. French) people working at the airport. The shuttle buses are all manned and womaned by non-Europeans, and of course the toilet attendants.
