No, but it does mean withdrawing from all but the largest settlement blocks and building a huge border fence to prevent suicide bombers from entering Israel.

Yeah, a fence will do wonders for stopping rockets with bioagents sent over by the future Hamas government. I see you drank the "two states side-by-side in peace" Kool Aid.

What is wrong with you people? HERE is one of the future leaders of the Arab terrorist state that Bush/Rice/Sharon are working so hard to establish.

Thanks for the picture Salem.

A lot of people forget that the sick, overweight, elderly man who is now the current PM of Israel was the Israeli version of Patton in his earlier years.

We may or may not agree on his recent decisions, but one thing we should agree on is this:

He was a great military leader at a critical time in the development of modern Israel.

montag, you're living in a bubble. Sharon's withdrawl was the most effective decision considering the constraints placed on the Israelis by the US and the international community.

Right. The Arab terrorists dance in the street while the planes hit the WTC. And what do we do? Reward them with a terror state, of course. As to your "contraints"...Israel must say "NO". That's it. And what "bubble" am I living in? It is YOU and most Israelis and liberal American "Jews" who live in a bubble. The same bubble the German Jews lived in...that if they just give in to the demands made upon them by their enemies, that there will be "peace". But as with Nazism, there can be no "peace" with Islam. They don't believe in the "two states side-by-side in peace" bullshit that Bush shovels. They believe in incremental steps--one after another--until Israel is driven from the MidEast.

HERE is one of their future leaders--a woman who purposely raised her 10 sons to be suicide bombers and murder Jews--3 of them have already "martyred" themselves. And she is certain to be elected. Have fun in YOUR bubble.

> Boo Hoo! [/sarcasm]

Disgusting. You want the Prime Minister dead? I would think anyone of good faith would pray for the Prime Minister's health and recovery. It is one thing to support a different party or a different political position. It is quite another to wish illness or death on someone.

Not to mention the news that Rice's arm twisting of Israel for a free of Israeli control border crossing between Gaza and Egypt today resulted in a free for all with all restraints vitiated by a mob of "Palestinians", who killed Egyptians soldiers and had others running away with the European "observers" no where to be seen.

A nuclear weapon can now be smuggled just up to Israel, almost in the open, even in a parade.

Has Rice, or her Boss, commented?

Kadima is not dead. Many of Israel's best and brightest followed Prime Minister Sharon. One may well emerge as a leader running on the platform of carrying out Prime Minister Sharon's plans. We don't know yet.

The are only two certainties right now:

Ehud Olmert is Prime Minister until such time as we know whether or not Prime Minister Sharon will live or die, and likely for weeks or months after that.

Nothing at all is certain about elections. We no longer know when they will be held, who will lead Kadima, or who the Israeli people will turn to.

Please say prayers for Prime Minister Sharon. Please also pray that acting Prime Minister Olmert acts with wisdom in the coming weeks and months.

Olmert should be frightened. He has traitorous Shimon Peres over his shoulder in Kadima.

Kadima: Olmert and Peres in the same party. Which side of Kadima is totally lacking in principles, the Left or the Right?

With the teeny little rockets they use now??? I'm sure that Israel's very scared....

The biggest threat from Hamas has always been suicide bombings, and that's decreased by 99% with the fence.

Yeah, I'm so sure Hamastan won't bother to use the Iranian and North Korean missiles that Al Queda brings into Gaza. You are so naive.

...but Israel needs a man who can say "NO" to the world which hates Jews, and looks the other way at Muslim aggression.

I couldn't agree more. Maybe Bibi has grown a spine in the last few years. I don't know who else is there, with a chance of winning, who could possibly take that stance.

Pre-1967 Israel constantly suffered from terrorist attacks. Things would be worse now, as the technology allows for shooting rockets over any wall that Israel can build - and Iran, etc. are supplying the Pallies with those rockets.

As for "religious fanatics" living in "indefensible" settlements - by abandoning those people (who moved their at the behest of their government - remember, Sharon was the architect of most of the settlement plans) in the face of a series of terrorist actions, Israel is only encouraging more of the same. It is appeasement, plain and simple. Any nation which refuses or is unable to defend its own citizens is not worthy of being a nation - or at least it needs a change of government.

By the way, I guarantee that the next step after abandoning Gaza and more of the "West Bank" than has already been surrendered will be Jerusalem. That is utterly intolerable, and will only be possible because of previous surrenders.

Appeasement never works, no matter what the apparent justification - it only postpones the inevitable (while leaving the victim nation in a far worse position to fight the aggressor).

A bit more on those "defensible" pre-'67 borders: if Israel didn't have the Sinai and the Golan Heights in '73, then Egytian tanks would have been in Tel Aviv and Syrian ones in Haifa.

Democracies like Israel need buffer zones to protect them from their own natural tendency to fall asleep at the switch concerning aggressive neighbors. Thank G-d that the US had 2 oceans separating us from our enemies, or else we'd have ended up like France in WW2. Israel is no different, in fact a buffer is that much more important because it has no strategic depth to fall back upon.

Which means that perhaps Israel should consider a preemptive strike against Iran.
