JERUSALEM (AP) -
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was rushed to a hospital late Wednesday after feeling ill, his office said.
Israeli media reported that he apparently suffered a second stroke or possibly a heart ailment. The announcement said Sharon, 77, was taken to Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital, where he was scheduled to undergo a procedure Thursday to close a hole in his heart that contributed to his Dec. 18 stroke.
Sharon's office said his personal physician was with him, and the Israeli leader was fully conscious. Sharon was taken to the same hospital Dec. 18.
Channel 10 News quoted Sharon's spokesman Wednesday as saying the prime minister's symptoms were not severe, and he was being taken by ambulance from his ranch in the southern Negev to the Jerusalem hospital.
Another hospital, Soroka in Beersheba, is much closer to the ranch, and Israeli media were concluding that his condition was not serious. Channel 10 said the heart procedure might be advanced.
Doctors said last month that Sharon would not suffer long-term effects from the stroke, but they discovered a birth defect in his heart that apparently contributed to the stroke. The hole measures about one-eighth of an inch.
Using a catheter inserted through a blood vessel in Sharon's groin, a team of cardiologists will put an umbrella-like device over the hole to seal it. A small camera inserted through Sharon's throat will guide the doctors.
Sharon will be under general anesthesia, and Vice Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will take over during the procedure, Sharon's office said.

JERUSALEM Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Wednesday and was receiving breathing assistance while under general anesthetic, a hospital official said. Power was transferred to his deputy.
Sharon, 77, suffered a "significant" stroke and was brought to Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital from his ranch in the Negev desert, an official said. Channel 2 TV said Sharon was suffering from paralysis in his lower body and was taken into the hospital on a stretcher.
Dr. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, the hospital's director general, said Sharon was under general anesthetic and was receiving breathing assistance while doctors assessed his condition. The latest health crisis came hours before Sharon was to undergo a procedure to seal a hole in his heart that contributed to a mild stroke on Dec. 18.
Cabinet Secretary Yisrael Maimon said Sharon's authority had been transferred to Vice Premier Ehud Olmert.
Sounds Bad to me...
It was part of the plan. The MSM has been predictably silent on the lawless anarchy going on the gaza strip right now. Total embarrasment after all their pro-pal/ anti-israel reporting.
The palestinians claim they want a state. Gaza is the test. So far, I'd give them a F- in big bright red ink on the test so far.
Proves that when these animals can't kill jews, they just kill each other. They have no other purpose in life.
I've been reading the book called Vengeance, about the Munich retribution team. During the operation, the Yom Kippur war began with an attack on Israel from 2 sides.
The author points out that the team leader was attempting to get to Israel, and join his army unit. The airport was jammed with American jews trying to get to Israel to help fight.
Would they line up to help today? I like to think so, but I wonder.
