I'd love to see someone go back to Clinton era day and see what Abramoff personally gave

I would assume we should see this in the coming weeks. Although, I wouldn't look to the MSM for the information. Thank goodness for the alternative media.
As stated in my previous post, It is interesting that Kerry (and, likely, other Dems) received so much more money prior to 1999...I suggest we have a steady supply of popcorn for the next few weeks.

I don't know what you think "ad hoc initiatives" "outside the framework of FISA" means, but it is pretty clear to me what it means.

But that's a nice effort to change the subject from your false charge about my statement at the top of the thread - which, I repeat, is "certainly CORRECT."

#1. I told you I'd admit that Abramoff has only personally contributed to Republicans the minute you agreed that your portrayal of Posner on another thread was incorrect.

#2. Posner says that the program is not a violation of civil liberties. He also said: The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act makes it difficult to conduct surveillance of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents unless they are suspected of being involved in terrorist or other hostile activities. That is too restrictive.

I told you that the facts are not dependent upon a deal. The facts are the facts. You claimed my statement was "certainly incorrect." You are conclusively wrong in that assertion, but you won't admit it and insist on changing the subject.

BTW - Posner says the law is "too restrictive" and that the gov't should do more, as it is doing with "ad hoc initiatives." It seems plain to anyone who isn't wedded to reading from talking points that what he is saying is that the program - though, as he asserts, necessary - is beyond the "too restrictive" law that is in place.

Won't admit it? Which part of "I'll admit it the minute you..." don't you get?

As I said, whether the facts are the facts is not the basis of a deal. I disagree with your interpretation of Posner's piece, and I've stated why. That doesn't change the undeniable fact that your charge that my statement is "certainly incorrect" is verifiably false. Period.

I took a look at it and you are correct. I would like to know what "From Individual" is defined as in the first table. The other question is why this table shows small contributions Abramoff has given to the Dems vs. other tables showing much larger amounts. As Ol' Dan Tucker mentioned, Abramoff may have also been a big Dem fund raiser prior to 1999.

Thanks for the follow-up.

I would count on Abramoff being a big donor/fundraiser prior to 1999. After all, Slick was in office and thanks to Johnny Chung, we already have detailed information about how the 'system' in DC works.

Johnny Chung

Johnny Chung, the California businessman who compared the White House to a subway where you put in money to get through the turnstile, described the source of his donations in testimony before the House Committee on Government Reform in May of last year [1999]. He testified that when he was in China in August 2000, he got a call from Liu Chaoying, the daughter of a senior Chinese general. She was managing director of the Hong Kong subsidiary of the China Aerospace Corporation. She arranged for Chung to meet General Ji Shengde, the director of Chinese military intelligence and a close ally of President Jiang. Two days later General Ji confirmed that he would wire $300,000 to Ms. Liu's account for transfer to Johnny Chung.

Ms. Liu told Chung that China was using him and several other intermediaries to buy influence with the Clinton administration. She said that China wanted to see Clinton reelected and that he could use the $300,000 to help achieve that goal. Justice Department records showed that $300,000 was transferred to Johnny Chung from a Citibank account in Hong Kong on August 14, 2000. Investigators traced the funds to J&A Securities, a big securities trading company in China started by the People's Liberation Army. Chung was quizzed about his ties to this company and General Ji by Justice Department investigators in 1998.

General Ji sent an emissary named Robert Luu to warn Johnny Chung not to reveal the involvement of the general or China Aerospace in the campaign contribution scheme. Chung negotiated a plea bargain that involved recording his conversations with Luu, who said that if he kept quiet, China would take care of his legal expenses and his family. If he was sent to prison, they would try to get Clinton to pardon him. Gen. Ji has since been arrested.
