Johnnie, I'm just starting to follow this scandal (so many scandals, so little time). What, actually, is WRONG with Dems OR Repubs taking this guy's money??

Great portions of the money in question was essentially given in good faith by Indian tribes.

The use of front organizations and the money for personal uses is what is the catch in the craw, so to speak. Jack and cohorts were all living high on the hog while playing the role of wheeler dealers in DC.

I hope I'm portraying that correctly, it's my interpretation of events. If not, Im sure folks more knowledgeable will add or modify my comments accordingly.

I'm just another Joe Schmo that can't afford to rub elbows with fatcats, actually I would prefer not to anyway..

I don't know why it is anything by embarrassing. However, if they are going to engage in this guilt by association and accusation, then this list shows the Democrats are EQUALY guilty and corrupt.

As I understand it (from Fox News last evening) Abramhoff was a lobbyist for an Indian group in Northern Michigan. He lobbied Washington on their behalf seeking support for them in Congress. As you can see, a large number of congressmen were happy to oblige; both Democrat and Republican. This in itself is not illegal. If a congressman agrees to a proposal (say promote a bill or whatever) that's no different than you or I seeking representation. The problem is when there is a quid-pro-quo; i.e. if Abrahamoff offered gifts or money in turn for the congressman's cooperation. That's illegal.

However, just because a congressman received donations doesn't automatically mean it was in payoff for services. To get a conviction, the government would have to prove the connection between the gift and the action by the congressman.

Nothing unless it was part of a specific deal. Ex. I give you $20,000, you vote for bill x.

Rush said this whole thing might not turn out to be any big deal. It's the Media and the Dims. who have been blowing it out of proportion. ( at least until now)
