Family members report 12 trapped miners are alive
TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) January 4,2006
"They're alive."
Families are rejoicing at the word that 12 miners trapped in a West Virginia coal mine since early Monday are alive.
The good news, which has yet to be confirmed by officials, comes more than 41 hours after a powerful explosion. A news conference is expected momentarily.
Bells at the Sago (SAY'-goh) Baptist church where relatives had been gathering rang out as family members ran out screaming in jubilation. A relative at the church said a mine foreman called relatives there, saying the miners had been found.
