Thanks for the headlines. USA Today had a "saved" headline as well as the AJC. Wonder what the NYTimes' headline was.

All the media needed to do was hold the story until confirmed. Had the story been accurate, the reporter could have simply called the rescue command center and would have gotten confirmation immediately. Instead, they ran with a story with no details and the only confirmation was the families impression of what a phone call stating that the miners were found meant. The families may have presumed that found meant alive. Clearly that was not the truth. The media could have, and should have waited until this was confirmed.
Have you heard anything recently about his condition? I've been searching but don't see anything.
Last was that the sedation was temporarily lowered slightly to see how responsive he would be. Responses were "appropriate". His lung is reinflated. Not much news, but I suppose that's as good as could be expected.
Our media double sourced what was said and the OU Daily had articles they couldn't print because they couldn't get a second source. I was criticizing the spin coming out of the OU Administration. I happened to know reporters that had one source but would not go with their story because they couldn't get a second source. I remember critizing the OU President and some others about their spin which was ludicrous. I knew our local media would not report without double sourcing.
I don't remember critizing the local media as they did everything they could without the second source. If I did, it was very few of the media. I even agreed with the OU Daily in not publishing something they couldn't get a second source.
Our Oklahoma papers say the same thing but I know they are finalized long before it was announced only one of twelve survived.
The longer it went on last night the more I began to wonder what really was happening. Those offhand comments by the media were irritating -- kept waiting for someone to ask why they had not had confirmation from the company but nothing.
Forget which cable channel I was watching when the one lady reporter said to watch for four people in scrubs with stethoscopes coming up the road -- wondered then if something was wrong because why would doctors be leaving the triage area.
Then the cable news shows kept playing the same tapes over and over of ambulances and most wouldn't say it was taped.
All in all bad news coverage IMHO -- they need to step up to the plate and admit they were wrong but I am not holding my breath.
Some said they heard it on the radio and as Bill Hemmer said this morning on F&F "A sea of humanity cascaded down the muddy dirt road".
Exactly right, and then you have some stooge like David Letterman question the "Fair and Balanced" trademark and admits he's never watched FNC.
That's what I thought too. Even if that second shaft was an "emergency exit" it still counts. I'm thinking that mine needed to be ventilated better than it was, or they wouldn't have had to puncture three air holes from above.
