Huh? The BS has about as much credibility as Anna Nicole Smith's fat boobs. You have a short memory.
Did you forget about Nebraska going to the national championship in 2002 despite the fact they got their ass handed to them in the conference championship game to Colorado? Moreover, USC should have gone to the title game in 2003. There are many more examples of the same kind of thing occurring every two out of three years. The AP poll is probably more legitimate than the BS system, because it isn't based on a bogus pairing that leaves out another possible contender that is just as good if not better than the two teams picked.
However, the only real LEGITIMATE championship is one that is a full out playoff - 16 teams, win or go home. Don't ever try to make a case for the BS. That is laughable.
Doesn't matter because the BCS is the agreement that all of the teams signed on to. The AP is just a third party group of guys that votes.
The AP had USC ahead of Texas much the year, yet they were wrong. The BCS is the college version of a playoff system - it's not perfect but it is the system that Southern Cal and Auburn agreed to.
Last year, Auburn would have had a good claim to the national title under the old system but they signed on to the BCS to they have no claim no matter what some polls might say. The same goes for USC in 2003.
