On January 4, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. (PST) the Rose Bowl Game will host the BCS National Championship, between USC and Texas once again showcasing the best of collegiate football in "The Granddaddy of Them All."® The Rose Bowl will be broadcast exclusively on ABC and on ESPN radio.
There is one thing about that play that really sticks out to me..why was the HEISMAN TROPHY winner not on the field for the biggest play of USC's season?
THe call itself I can see. White was pounding the daylights out of UT all night, so a run by White was not in and of itself a bad call. Although almost all of White's success (other than the first TD) came to the right, and on this play they ran left.
But, WHERE was Bush? Even if the play was to LenDale, Make Texas account for Bush. My god. ONce Reggie left the field, UT knew all they had to do was stack the line and stop White.
jw77 and the rest of the "USC Excuse Brigade" seem to have been blind to the fact that IF their team had not had a one-in-a-million bounce out of bounds on a fumble that allowed them a no-time-left one yard attempt, their team would NOT even have been in the Rose Bowl.
IF...IF...IF...USC LOST, suck it up !!!!
Ding, ding, ding, ding ... we have a winner.
The Texas defense refused to lose, VY refused to lose ... USC couldn't protect a 12 point lead with 6 minutes left.
End of story ... Texas WON
I was so hopeful that Texas would TROUNCE USC just because I knew the USC supporters would start whinning "we wuz robbed" crap...Never mind that Texas averaged 8.3 yards per rush....never mind that Young hit 75% of his passes and ran for 200 yards against them...NO, they wuz robbed.
Texas 41
USC 38
Have a nice day??? I'm having a great day ... hope you're enjoying yours as well
just looking at this thread makes my hangover worse
Speaking of a hangover...there is plenty of WHINE on this thread..(from the USC folks).
I think there were more bad calls in THEIR favor than ours.
It seemed like USC held on almost every offensive play in the 2nd half. That might have something to do with them able to run up and down the field.
Damn I've enjoyed this thread. Hearing the vanquished whine is sweet music.
Now tell me who USC played during the year? ND wasnt ranked in the top 10 before the year started.
I think that the USC players and coaches are pretty cool. Pete Carrol does look a lot like John Kerry, but from interviews I've seen, he seems like a good guy.
It's the media and fanboys that are making USC unbearable. USC is one of my favorite teams - I think they have the best song in football, the song girls are amazing and their tradition is up there with almost anyone.
Hopefully now the media and the fanboys can stop wondering who would win between the 1985 Bears and this years USC team.
USC is really good, but lots of teams have been head and shoulders above their competition. The recent Miami national championship team comes to mind. So does the Nebraska team that crushed Florida.
Other teams have strung together championships before as well. It's not like USC is winning for the first time in their history - they've been a elite program for a very long time - their fans need to start acting like it.
Maybe you havent noticed but Vick isn't a Quarterback! LOL They need to move him to WR and let Schaub QB.
LOL - using Vick as a comparison is not going to be wise strategy for Young. To be fair, I do believe that Young is already a more effective and accurate passer than Vick is right now.
If you enjoy this, you should check out this Texas A&M board. 12th Man
Check out the thread "I am physically ill", and "T-Sips put the Mythical in MNC".
Those guys are pathetic.
Enjoy the victory... it was deserved... I'm looking forward to the contest on T+1 '06... I trust you are too.

The "WHAT IF" game just won't play...the officals MOST likely COULD have found holding on several of USC's passing plays that would have stopped drives...if...if...if.
And as someone else pointed out...IF, a team has a 12 point lead and can't keep it, then they LOSE.
My Dh and I would definately agree with you on that point!
Because a lot of those guys came over to the Bama board when A&M lured Franchoine away. I don't recall any of those guys graduating from Bama yet they posted away on the boards.
I've sort of kept up with the board since that time and have never posted.
I like Texas A&M people in person, but online they have delusions of grandeur.
Pete Carroll is a nice guy...I am just one of those who ALWAYS gets a bit chapped when a team plays (in my view) in a weak conference and then the media starts attempting to suggest that they are the BEST EVER...BULL!!!!
A very good team, however, let's not lose sight of the miracle plus good luck at Notre Dame, and the fact that Fresno ran up 45 points on them and then went on to lose 5 games...let's not lose sight of the fact that USC only scored two more times on UCLA that did ASU when ASU was 1-4 in conference play.
To even start the BEST EVER chatter was silly.
