Hokies AD 'embarrassed' by Vick's conduct

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver said Tuesday that his administration was embarrassed by Marcus Vick's unsportsmanlike conduct in the Gator Bowl on Monday and that the incident will be reviewed and dealt with.

Vick, the Hokies junior quarterback and younger brother of NFL star Michael Vick, stomped on the left calf of NCAA sacks leader Elvis Dumervil of Louisville when Dumervil lay prone on the ground after tackling Vick in the second quarter of the game in Jacksonville, Fla. Vick said later it was an accident, but his version was not supported by video replays shown widely since. After the play, Vick seems to pause before walking across Dumervil's leg.

Vick was not penalized on the play, but was rebuked at halftime by quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers, who said he even considered pulling Vick from the lineup.

he even considered pulling Vick from the lineup...

Is this comparable to hand-writing a letter to Vice President Cheney, but keeping it in your desk for years and never delivering it?

What do you expect when the one-sided refereeing ignored head slaps and worse by the Cardinals on every play in the Hokies' first possession, penalized Hokies for legal hits with flags for personal fouls, penalized Hokies when Cardinals were offenders, and ignored numerous holding penalties on 'big' plays by Louisville? That officiating team was so one sided I'm surprised their stripes weren't red.

I, for one, understand a little frustration on the part of the Hokies.

I must admit, I didn't see the play in question. Nevertheless, I don't have to have seen it to know I don't care based on the sorry officiating I did see.

Looks like the NAACP has another candidate for Man of the Year to go along with Rodney King and Calypso Louie.

Do you remember Christian Lattener stepping on a University of Kentucky player's chest during the Elite Eight game back in 1992? This was almost the same thing.

The Louisville player had made a clean hit on Vick, but was a little slow in getting up off the ground. Vick, who was already on his feet, looked around to make sure none of the refs were watching, then stomped on the Cardinal player's leg.

I take it from your comments that you were cheering for Virginia Tech. I am a University of Kentucky fan myself (Louisville's in-state arch rival), but there was no call for such action by Vick.

You didn't see the play in question because you were watching the wrong game. The game in question was the Sugar Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs. You keep referencing the Cardinals who played in a different bowl game, perhaps the Fiesta Bowl.

So, because Vick was angry at the officials, he tried to injure one of the opposing players? It would have made more sense to hit one of the officials—except that would have gotten him tossed out of the game.

Look, it is just a game. The most important part of any game is good sportsmanship. (I know, I know—that is a quaint notion these days.) There is never an excuse to lash out at an opposing player because the game is going badly, even if the officiating is one-sided. The coaches should have benched Vick.

Embarrassed? Why?

He's a Vick! what'd he expect?

I'm wrong. I am mixed up in the games, not you.

WTH are you talking about? Ohio State played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Virginia Tech played Louisville in the Gator Bowl.

Georgia Played the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Sugar Bowl. Marcus Vick and the Virginia Tech Hokies played the Louisville CARDINALS in the Gator Bowl. he has the correct game and his assessment of the referees in that game is dead on

However, no matter how bad the officiating was, there was no excuse for that little punk Vick to deliberatly stomp on another player like he did.

What I thought was funny about that play was they were interviewing Michael Vick in the stands during the play. They cut away from the interview to watch 'little' Vick step on the guy, then cut back to 'big' Vick who had a strange expression on his face while watching the play.

This is the same Vick that i saw a few weeks ago and was saying his first car was a new Escalade, no doubt bought by his older brother. He sounds like a spoiled brat.Great role model for young folks huh?

Disgusting, I missed that incident.

He should be stripped of his position and any scholarship, if he receives any.

Nope, not a basketball fan.

Yeah. He should be playing for Florida State. He'd fit right in.
