He probably includes Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy in the mix. This is of course a deceptive way of counting "christians".

Does that mean Christianity didn't really exist until Martin Luther?

No one is Christian based upon the the Church they attend.

They are Christian because their heart has been changed.

Being Catholic doesn't save anyone any faster than being Baptist saves someone.

We get ourselves all concerned with whether our names are on the roll at church when the only roll we need to be concerned with is the one God will call one day.

True and False Christians have always existed since the time of Jesus Christ. For every Peter, there also exist Judas.

As Jesus said : "“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. " ( Matthew 7:21 )

"By their fruits Ye shall know them" (Matthew 7:16)

There always was a separation between the wheat and the chafe even as they stay together. Jesus Himself said so.
