Cry me a river, Gary - whydo you continue to stick up for Imperial Russian despotism even when it is contrary to the interest of this country?

What are you talking about - Russia is screwing Europe with their pricing -

The market price is far lower - here is the latest - Europe don't need Putie and his stinkin gas.

You are one of the biggest liars on Free Republic. The link you proivded is not the market price, but rather one offer from the Turkmen, which did not include transit fees. The $230 per 1000 cu meters Russia offered is far lower than the $350 we pay in America, and is a very good deal. The Ukraine was STUPID in rejecting the $160 figure, and wanting free gas with their DEMAND of $3.00 transit fees.

Spanalot's supposed contract is nothing more than an article in Ukranians news with their talking points.

Keep spouting the Kremlin Party line - the fact is Russia has the whole world against them and now they are even starting to steal Turkmanistan gas that has been bought by Ukraine.

Turkmanistan is Ukraines largest supplier - not Russia.

Gary,

These are direct quotes from the Energy Prime Minister about the contract - and I think he knows a bit more than you.

- Then why do the Russians say that they will stop contract supplies of gas to Ukraine on January 1, 2006?

- One can always find a reason to make a statement. But in article 14 of this contract it is clearly stated that: “This contract comes in effect on January 1, 2003… It remains effective until 10 am on January 1, 2014.” And one more thing: “During the period between 2005 and 2009 the Customer (Gasprom) will sell annually natural gas at the price of 50 US dollars for 1000 cubic meters, which is not subject to change by the parties, from the gas transportation services of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine to ensure the gas balance of Ukraine.”

You're lying as usual. The Ukranians DID NOT SIGN the contract with the Turkmen, but Gazprom did. Furthermore, the Russians supply far more gas to the Ukraine than anyone else.

In 2004, Ukraine's natural gas consumption exceeded 70 bcm while domestic production was 20 bcm. Gazprom covered part of this deficiency by providing Ukraine 29.2 bcm as payment to Naftogaz for transportation services. That does not include the huge amount stolen by the Ukranians annually, which they sell at market prices to the EU to pay for the rest purchased from Gazprom.

It's not the contract, and the energy prime minster for the Ukraine is providing his talking points. I hope he is more honest than energy prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, who created an estate of $11.5 billion in 5 short years by stealing gas from Gazprom, and selling it to the EU at market prices.

Yeah - only because Putin beat up on the Turkmen and bought himself for $65.

Read and Weep. Your BS won't fly here.

Driving to New York City this holiday season? What if you couldn't drive through New Jersey because that state and New York had been unable to agree on the tolls at the Lincoln Tunnel?

Well, then I guess I'd take the George Washington Bridge.

It takes a time to build a new pipeline under the sea.
