I'll wait until it comes to DVD. As always...great satire by the subversives at The People's Cube.
The reason to see this one is the special effects. Seeing it on the "tube" won't really cut it.
Unless you have a very large projection HDTV and a THX sound system.
Speaking of remakes, we voted GOP and got LBJ lite.
I stumbled in the '76 verion the other day and my 10 year old wanted to watch it. I remember seeing it as a kid and actually seeing the big stuffed doll on the Twin Towers.
Seeing it now, it has to be one of the worst movies ever made. Charles Grodin has to be the world's worst actor. I wanted to get my razor out and shave the hair off Jeff Bridges Face right on the screen, it was gross.
But, and this is a big but, Jessica Lange was H.O.T.
Another Moonbat conservative.
FYI, LBJ increased taxes, GWB cut them 5 years in a row.
Who morphed into the world's second worst TV talk show host just behind John McEnroe.
Both radically expanded the welfare state, and GWB's percentage of increase in expenditures is right along with LBJ's.
At least George, who I love dearly as a man with a lot of integrity LBJ lacked, runs a lot better war.
My gripe is that I haven't been voting straight GOP for over 23 years to get people who want to run the welfare state better and hold hands with the "loyal" opposition. My votes are for people to kick some butt and reign in the welfare state in particular and intrusive, bloated gummint in general.
Moonbat conservative....I guess that's me, along with a lot of others here at FR.
Ditto!
Another Moonbat conservative.
"FYI, LBJ increased taxes, GWB cut them 5 years in a row."
LOL! So what if he created a new governmental department, expanded others, allowed spending to explode, and created a new entitlement, but yep he cut my taxes, and promised to increase my grand kids taxes. So what I'll be dead.
Bush is playing straight out of keynses play book, pump priming with deficit spending. He cut our taxes temporarily but nothing is permanent, and he has promised in the longterm to make it so our taxes explode as entitlements bankrupt themselves as they boomers cash in.
but nope he is nothing like LBJ no sir.
It's easy to cut taxes, but it takes a real conservative to cut spending. And that token 39 billion dollar cut is a joke.
If you voted straight gop for 23 years, you are no moonbat.
I do think your criticism is misplaced. Today, the democrats are united to be obstructionist. Their only way back to power is to see the US and the gop fail, so they obstruct. The gop then needs 60 senators and nearly all their house members to do anything.
I think the problem is in the democrat obstructionists and not the gop or GWB.
Thank you for acknowledging my bona-fides.
That being said, a considerable amount of the blame resides right with the GOP. If a primary challenge develops on the right of an incumbent like McCaine, why does the GOP money fall in "McCaine's" pocket? How could we lose by supporting the more conservative person in the primary? This hypothetical "McCaine" isn't going to vote much different than a Dem anyhow.
Once I realized that the story was just a weak vehicle to show off some really neat special effects, I just kicked back and looked for the laughable boners in the film.
For example, it's the Depression, right? Therefore, everyone must be dirty. Dirty faces, dirty clothes, you name it--dirt everywhere.....except.....
when Kong drags Anne Darrow all over the Big Apple and hauls her up the Empire State Building in a WHITE DRESS, there isn't a single mark, smudge, smear, or blemish. NOT ONE.
I can think of about three true conservatives in congress right now. If the GOP did its job, there would be a LOT more than that.
George as LBJ Lite was a little harsh, but "Dude! Where's your veto pen?".
And I won't even go into the "Spider Pit" scene with the cockroaches......
Son of Kong?!? I never caught that one.
Although as a kid I always liked the Japanese King Kong movies...you know, King vs. Godzilla, and those Japanese movies with the Robot Kong were great too (in a cheesey way.)
> Charles Grodin has to be the world's worst actor.
And he knows it. He tested for the lead in "The Graduate".
That footage still exists, and some of it is in the
supplements of the Criterion Collection laserdisc of
that film (dunno about the DVD).
Grodin refused to allow any of his footage, or even
his vocal tracks, to be used on the disc.
He lasted such a short time; I never got to see his show.
