Forecasters said yesterday that the month of December had an average temperature of 38 degrees in New York City, 4 degrees higher than normal and 10 degrees higher than December of 1904.
It was the warmest December in 14 years. There have been only four December in the last thirty-five years that have been warmer. The warmest on record was in 1891, when the mean temperature for the month was 42 degrees.

Note: G.W. Bush was not born yet, so the NYT did not blame him.

1906 was an interesting year. Who did the Times blame the San Francisco earthquake on?

Yeah, it is easy to laugh from the vantage point of 100 years but what about the poor people of New York in 1906, you think them stupid?
They were scared-to-death of the advent of global warming?

Who did the Times blame the San Francisco earthquake on? In 1906 the NYT was sublimely sure of the superiority of the Anglo-Saxon race, the demised of the colored races and the inevitible supremacy of scientific social engineering. In other words, not much has changed.

This makes perfect sense. Krakatoa went up 13 years previous to this date and caused some global cooling. That is why the global warming cultists picked 1880 as the starting point for their "proof" that the world warmed by a whole degree Fahrenheit in 120 years. They could have picked 1901, but that would have been too far from the official end of the little ice age, and almost past the effects of Krakatoa; the result would have been less warming to blame on humanity.

I don't know about NYC, but over all this December was the coldest in memory for some people. Hitting -15 below before the middle of December is just not normal.
