It was painful and a bad idea. I grew up near Philly and remember when Dick was pressed into service at Bandstand after Bob Horn gat caught with some underage girls. Then Dick was young and boyish. At 76 he's too old for this duty even without the stroke. Celebrities just can't seem to quit. They start believing their publicists.
ABC just wanted the ratings. Next year, if he's around, he won't be seen I bet when they add up all the negative reactions.
I gave my step-father credit for his courage after his stroke, but that was private. A performer needs to meet the performance standard. Dick can't and didn't.
