There have also been reports that critical information was funneled
through the Russian Lourdes intelligence facility in Cuba to the
terrorists. If anything, cooperation between Cuba and the various
terrorist Muslim states in the Middle East increased in 2001.
Additionally, as pointed out by Yossef Bodansky ("Bin Laden," Prima,
1999), since the mid-1990s bin Laden has been using the Russian
Mafia (i.e., KGB entities) for the covert movement of funds to support
terrorist operations and to acquire terrorist arms, explosives and
related materials. <<<<<<<<
This fits my 'granny googles' and should open a few eyes.
Excellent report.............
It the past, according to a published Washington Post article, whenever you dialed a Pentagon extension the call was also routed to Cuba. I don't know if it has change today, but I will give you odds,
For those that can see.
"Excellent report......"
glad you like it

I also found that interesting that a soldier's weblog that was posted on FR (sorry, I did not record the address of the post)claimed that the best fighters he and his fellows encountered on the ground in Iraq were Chechnyan's. The story is, they got to be so good by fighting the Russians.
I find this quite convenient. The soldier was explicit I believe in saying that these were white, Russian speaking people. Of course, this would be the story that Spetnaz soldiers fighting against us in Iraq would be telling people.
In addition, Suvorov (1987) explained that the Russians have special interest in people (Russians) of different races and with different cultural backgrounds becoming part of Spetznaz. After World War II for example, many of the captured German soldiers stayed in Russia, partly Suvorov says, because they committed crimes against their fellow German soldiers to make their captivity easier. These German soldiers married, frequently marrying among the people of German race who live in Russia and raised children who were excellent German speakers and had a strong German cultural background. These children were then prime candidates for Spetnaz. Apparently, the first generation would have been inappropriate for this purpose due to a lack of family hostages being held by the Russian government when they went on operations into another country.
Before the breakup of the Soviet Union, various dark skinned, Arabic speaking Central Asians would have also been available for this purpose. I don't believe these people would seem exactly like the people originating in the Middle East itself, but I think they might be taken for Northern Africans by people in the Middle East (non-experts). (Granted, this is speculation on my part.)
