The United States government reportedly began coordinating with NATO its plans for a possible military attack against Iran.
The German daily Der Spiegel collected various reports from the German media indicating that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are examining the prospects of such a strike.
According to the report, CIA chief Porter Gus, in his last visit to Turkey on December 12, requested Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to provide military bases to the United States in 2006 from where they would be able to launch an assault.
The German news agency DDP also noted that countries neighboring Iran, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and Pakistan were also updated regarding to supposed plan. American sources sent to those countries apparently mentioned an aerial attack as a possibility, but did not provide a time frame for the operation.
Although Der Spiegel could not say that these plans were concrete, they did note that according to a January 2005 New Yorker report American forces had entered Iran in 2005 in order to mark possible targets for an aerial assault.
All for some Persian Poontang.
Don't forget our friends to the north (and pretty much every other country in the world).
What happened to the supposed revolution that's been in the works for the last ten years ?? Did the blog award race throw them off track ??
Why would we use Eqypt to launch an assault on Iran?
We only have about 15 airbases surrounding Iran right now (Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and a couple of the 'stans) not to mention an aircraft carrier or two off-shore.
Pretty poorly designed fake article.
Probably and the prudent thing to do.
Anyone that has ever worked in Defense (DoD) knows that they have a gazillion plans.
Now, to get a Go Order is a different deal.
Only partially correct. They are still a fairly formidable force under very controlled circumstances. Yes, The days of Blitzkreig are over (not necessarily a bad thing) but they still have potent Air Combat Capability. No one is looking at going in and taking over the place, just pasting the crap outta' it. That will spur internal unrest. Europe might just buy in to this. That will spook Syria too.
"langauge" = language
Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!
Targets painted, time's running out...Is anyone paying attention in Iran? Well, if the mullahs are, they'll whine about maybe cooperating if the sun comes up in the east and try for another two years of nuke development. Not going to work this time.
Perhaps the mooselimbs will "interview" them one at a time.
F14 you want to handle this one?
Sources in German security circles told the DDP reporter that Goss had ensured Ankara that the Turkish government would be informed of any possible air strikes against Iran a few hours before they happened. The Turkish government has also been given the "green light" to strike camps of the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Iran on the day in question.
"Sean has a long moustache.
Sean has a long moustache."
Actually, both have good capabilities, but each has been starved by its government.
They are limited by the mission the government--and regional politics-- has placed on them. Europe still remembers the Wehrmacht. However, there is another difference. The German population is a lot older than it was. A large German family has two kids.
I have stated this in a previously posted article on the subject here. There is a good chance this is planted information, intended to root out leakers.
I don't think military planning against Iran is in the United States Constitution.
Seems like they would have put up stop loss orders if this were true.
You and everyone else is right to be skeptical.
We routinely generate full on scenario mapping plans for the kind operation described here.
( Remember how incredibly enormous such an operation would have to be.) Try to recall how enormous Gulf War operations of the past were.
Whether we intend to implement these plans or not we are obliged to ourselves and our allies to have these contigencies fully mapped out.
Assume nothing about how it may start, end or be abandoned...the latter being much more preffered.
Iran as our ally with no military conflict has been and still is our number one prefferred scenario.
For the obvious reasons of that being the "Check Mate" call to any further funding of world wide terrorism being bank-rolled by Arab nation states.
Peace would breakout with the full force of the morning sun.
As we face the prospect of the year ahead pray that this wonderful opportnity for world peace becomes reality.
You can rest assured that the fine people of Iran will join you in that prayer.
Isn't the military tasked with developing battle plans for almost every possible scenario? But it isn't everyday that we notify our allies, which are filled with traitors who'll tip off the enemy and leak to the press.
