A while back, Rep. Jim Gibbons requested the Congressional Research Staff to put together a memo concerning the NFRTR (NFA database) and reported abuses, missing information, etc.
The CRS compiled the memo and Jim Gibbons has released it. Here is a link to the PDF file. http://www.nfaoa.org/documents/CRSmemoNFRTR0001.pdf
This document shows coverups, deliberate illegal changes to the NFRTR database and brings to light the questionable practices of the BATF. Due to the nature of the abuses and the consequenses of the actions of the BATF, I feel that this document shows grounds for a repeal of the 1986 machine gun ban as well as the 1934 NFA.
I encourage all of you to read the document in depth and if you agree, contact your Congressional Representatives and Senators and urge them to support repeal of the above two laws.
This document is quite concerning and I believe that every NFA related conviction is in question now and should be reheard in the court of law.

hrmn... spare the janitors, at least.
No, but my fantasy would be for the repeal of the 1934 and 1986 machine gun bans and process purchases using the NICS like regular firearms.

The Second Amendment...
America's Only Homeland Security!
Be Ever Vigilant!
Any and all Federal Firearms laws are UnConstitutional. Period. End of story. The ATF needs to go have the "F" removed from it permanently.
Wishful thinking maybe, but it must happen one way or another.
I have a cable modem and it took about a minute for it to load up, too.
I am on broadband and it took less than a minute.
It is a PDF file and I cannot cut and paste from it and the smallest file I can condense it to is 17 MB.
I guess those on dial up are on their own as far as my abilities go.
Concur. My study of history, in large part from the work of Clayton Cramer, makes it painfully clear that, after alcohol prohibition was ended, the ATF, which had grown more than tenfold in that period, could not imagine downsizing, so instead it simply shifted its prohibition efforts to other areas. You'll note that the NFA ruling came soon after, and it's gone more or less downhill since.
Coincidence? Not likely.
Corrupt bureaucratic agencies will never be dissolved, particularly this one, because this is what it will mean: http://www.lewrockwell.com/suprynowicz/suprynowicz38.html.
The Second Amendment is long past its usefulness as a check on the growth of tyranny. We have been long past "that awkward stage" that Claire Wolf refers to and don't seem inclined to take the indicated action. Life's too comfy.
Too bad, because soon the tyrants will be employing millimeter wave cameras to search us everywhere we go, and even those who asked permission to carry will be harassed into the noise floor. The next socialist dem that gets elected will have all sorts of tools and precedents to use in the upcoming War on Guns. Plenty of well drilled trainees from the War on Terror to conscript as well. I hope I'm wrong, but the first rule of bureaucracy is, at all costs, maintain the bureaucracy. The "just following orders" of other totalitarian nightmares will be heard in America as "just doing my job".
LOL!
.....coffee...
Living out where I can shoot all I want etc. is worth it tho. I can get semi fast via satellite but the price is prohibitive.
The BATFE had been skirting the law at will for a long time. I am not holding my breath for the government to do anything about it and the media couldn't care less.
You are correct; the monied power mongers who purchase governments for fun and profit also purchase thugs to protect their investment. It certainly appears that a team with magnificent courage would be required to lop off the head of this serpent.
BTTT for later
Working on a shortened version for those of us out here in the penniless wilds?

Not certain if you're the first to use the phrase "War On Guns", but it's worth repeating and kudos to you for labeling it such.
"Just following orders" vs. "Just doing my (bureaucratic) job", also rates up there among the many warnings we should heed. Thanks.

I got it down under six megabytes. Still big, but one heck of a lot more tolerable for people on dial up.
The process to reduce the file:
.pdf --> .png's --> .gif's --> combined into one .pdf

I can't leave it up for long since it bumps me near the transfer quota on that account.
See my post, just above this one.
