UK to take up Russian Hindu cause

The campaign against the alleged harassment of Hindus in Russia by the Orthodox Church and the Mayor of Moscow is getting more intense in Britain.

Ashok Kumar, MP is launching the "Defend Russian Hindus Campaign" at the House of Commons in January.

There was umbrage here when it was learnt that Archbishop Nikon wrote a letter to the Mayor of Moscow urging him not to allow the construction of a Hindu temple in Moscow because according to him, Lord Krishna who is worshipped by the Hindu community was an "evil demon".

"Such untenable words in an age where interfaith harmony is the need of the day are nothing but an attempt to malign and persecute a faith community that teaches respect and freedom for every other faith community, " commented Ramesh Kallidai, Secretary General Hindu Forum of Britain, an umbrella organisation of most community groups in Britain.

The Defend Russian Hindus Campaign, launched by the Hindu Forum of Britain, Hindu Council UK, National Council of Hindu Temples UK, International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Vishwa Hindu Parishad UK, Hindu Council of Australia, Hindu American Foundation and many other worldwide Hindu organisations, aims to build awareness about the alleged persecution and discrimination against Russian Hindus by a corpus of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Mayor of Moscow, despite support from the Central Government.

There are over 100,000 Hindus in Russia. In Moscow alone, there are 5,000 Hindus of Indian origin and over 10,000 Hindus of Russian origin.

Two years ago the Mayor of Russia asked Hindus to vacate their temple in exchange for a piece of land on which they could build a bigger temple. After land was allocated to the Hindu temple, the original temple was demolished. The Russian Orthodox Church orchestrated mass protests against the allocation of land and started a misinformation campaign against Hindus in the media.

On October 30, 2005, after bowing down to pressure from the Orthodox Church, the Mayor of Moscow cancelled the land order and took away the piece of land given for the construction of the Hindu temple. Now, the 15,000 Hindus in Moscow have no place to worship. The consecrated Deities of Radha and Krishna will have no home, say the Hindu leaders.

Kallidai said around the time of India Prime Minister's state visit to Moscow to meet Russian President Putin, Archbishop Nikon, a leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, called the Hindu God, Lord Krishna an "evil demon, the personified power of hell opposing God", and "a livid lascivious youth".

I will grant you I was wrong about the comment:

"If 2 Dalit women are raped in India every day that in itself will make India a country with the largest number rapes per year,"

Fact is India or any other organisation does not give out any stat on just how many Dalits, Brahmins or Muslims are raped each year. And all Dalit rapes need not be a "castist violence", in fact most rapes are inter-community. Sometimes within the family.

My question is this: is not an agreement an agreement? the Hindus tore down one temple with the agreement that they would get this particular piece of land; doesn't seem cricket to change the deal.

"Sukhoi's an Indian Christian from the south and seems extremely Indo-patriotic and yet very Christian."

What are you TALKING about??? Sukhoi was a Russian aircraft designer, born in Belarus, if I'm not mistaken.

"The South and West of India has significant Christian communities who have integrated very well with their fellows and are treated as equals "

Treated better than dhimmis, maybe. But treated as equals, I would be inclined to dispute that assessment.

"There are Hindu lunatics "

Well i'm glad you at least admitted that.

"The "Dalits" now occupy most of the high political positions. "

Oh really? And rajiv ghandi was a dalit?

and jawanarlal nehru? And Vajypee (departed leader)?

Me think you make big fib.

"And no Judaism is isn't older than Hinduism."

I'm sorry, but I believe you are mistaken. Judaism, the world's oldest religion, is FAR older than hindu.

If someone (or a group of someones) cannot respect others' rights to believe differently, worship God in a different manner, hold a different understanding of spiritual truths, this is proof that he doesn't have a deep grasp of his own religion. In fact, the intolerance and hatred shown is a symptom of their own lack of spiritual awakening.

A deeply spiritually awake person understands fully that God gives everyone the free will to accept and love Him, turn away from Him, or approach Him in one way or another. Such a truly religious person will never try to take anyone's free will away, force their beliefs down anyone's throats, or denigrate other religions the way I've seen some do on this thread.

Thanks for the quote.

According to the Vedas themselves, much evidence contained therein, and many Indologists who are not influenced by British theories which were promulgated purposely to make India seem primitive, the history and civilization of India and the Vedic religion (aka "Hinduism") is immeasurably older than Judaism.

A little interesting evidence: A year or two on FR there was an article about the remains of a city found under a river, very systematically planned, which was determined to be 9,500 years old.

Do you have a link? Sources?

I'm sure that Judaism is the oldest religion.

Oh, apologies.

He said Sukhoi, so I assumed he meant the aircraft designer.

I will look up some links later if I have time.

I have studied Vedic source literatures and commentaries for 35 years. Here's a little tidbit from memory:

A stellar combination mentioned in one of the Vedas was found to have happened 26,000 years ago. It was mentioned as observed by sages. Scholars using computers calculated when it actually happened.

Fair enough. I assume then that you agree with the Indian actions in the story below:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4088594.stm

If Russia is entitled to deport non-Christian foreigners, India is entitled to deport non-Hindu foreigners.
