UK to take up Russian Hindu cause
HindustanTimes.com ^ | December 29, 2005 | Nabanita Sircar

Posted on 12/29/2005 4:24:45 PM PST by Tailgunner Joe

The campaign against the alleged harassment of Hindus in Russia by the Orthodox Church and the Mayor of Moscow is getting more intense in Britain.

Ashok Kumar, MP is launching the "Defend Russian Hindus Campaign" at the House of Commons in January.

There was umbrage here when it was learnt that Archbishop Nikon wrote a letter to the Mayor of Moscow urging him not to allow the construction of a Hindu temple in Moscow because according to him, Lord Krishna who is worshipped by the Hindu community was an "evil demon".

"Such untenable words in an age where interfaith harmony is the need of the day are nothing but an attempt to malign and persecute a faith community that teaches respect and freedom for every other faith community, " commented Ramesh Kallidai, Secretary General Hindu Forum of Britain, an umbrella organisation of most community groups in Britain.

The Defend Russian Hindus Campaign, launched by the Hindu Forum of Britain, Hindu Council UK, National Council of Hindu Temples UK, International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Vishwa Hindu Parishad UK, Hindu Council of Australia, Hindu American Foundation and many other worldwide Hindu organisations, aims to build awareness about the alleged persecution and discrimination against Russian Hindus by a corpus of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Mayor of Moscow, despite support from the Central Government.

There are over 100,000 Hindus in Russia. In Moscow alone, there are 5,000 Hindus of Indian origin and over 10,000 Hindus of Russian origin.

Two years ago the Mayor of Russia asked Hindus to vacate their temple in exchange for a piece of land on which they could build a bigger temple. After land was allocated to the Hindu temple, the original temple was demolished. The Russian Orthodox Church orchestrated mass protests against the allocation of land and started a misinformation campaign against Hindus in the media.

On October 30, 2005, after bowing down to pressure from the Orthodox Church, the Mayor of Moscow cancelled the land order and took away the piece of land given for the construction of the Hindu temple. Now, the 15,000 Hindus in Moscow have no place to worship. The consecrated Deities of Radha and Krishna will have no home, say the Hindu leaders.

Kallidai said around the time of India Prime Minister's state visit to Moscow to meet Russian President Putin, Archbishop Nikon, a leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, called the Hindu God, Lord Krishna an "evil demon, the personified power of hell opposing God", and "a livid lascivious youth".

Work towards eradicating untouchability: RSS

Press Trust of India
Posted online: Monday, December 12, 2005 at 1124 hours IST

Mumbai, December 12: RSS head K S Sudarshan urged RSS members to strive towards eradicating untouchability in the country.

"Efforts should be made to wipe out the barriers of caste and creed and also to include the socially outcast into the mainstream of society," Sudarshan said while addressing RSS volunteers at Shivaji park in central Mumbai on Sunday evening.

Sudarshan said stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi and Babasaheb Ambedkar, who had attended RSS programmes, had been impressed by the working of the Sangh.

RSS had in its own way, played a part in the struggle for India’s Independence, Sudarshan, the fifth sarsanghchalak of RSS, said.

"At that time, our organisational strength was mostly in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. So, the RSS members participated in the freedom struggle in their individual capacity," Sudarshan said.

RSS volunteers had taken initiative in giving asylum to`satyagrahis' during the freedom struggle, the Sangh chief, who arrived here in the afternoon, said.

BJP leaders Pramod Mahajan and Gopinath Munde participated in the programme as members of the audience.

You need to quit reading propaganda..Baptists are the farthest thing from terrorists you will ever find.

Of course, they don't tolerate Pagans, etc....

Now...why am I not suprised to hear such a liberal comment?
Especially since it comes from "Moscow on the Colorado" or the "Peoples Republic of Austin"

Christianity doesn't always mean toleration, especially from demonic religons....

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/nlft.htm

The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was formed in December 1989 for the purpose of seceding from India in order to create an independent Christian fundamentalist state of Tripura. The group was banned under the Unlawful Activies Prevention Act of 1967.

The headquarters of NLFT is located in the Khagrachari district of Bangladesh, about 40-45 km southeast of Simanapur.

In Tripura a systematic surrender of arms by a faction of NLFT insurgents and NLFT fringe groups is due to the increased security pressure and to infighting within NLFT insurgent ranks. Since 2000 a few hundred militants have surrendered in small groups to the security forces, handing in their weapons. The NLFT leadership engaged in peace talks with Mizoram Chief Zoramthanga in April 2001, however the NLFT has not promised acceptance of any future peace process.

The NLFT has set up a number of camps in Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), in the Sylhet, Maulavi Bazar, Habiganj and Comilla regions. NLFT also has ties with Pakistan’s external intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence Agency (ISI).

Alrighty then. I wouldn't expect much more than that from a Confederate.

Psst, you lost. Slavery is illegal now. Get over it.

"I don't however disagree with the ArchBishop's statements, from a religious perspective he's wholely correct and justified, and he is a religious leader."

So I suppose you would not have much problem if a Hindu religious leader is to say similar things about Christianity.

Anyway I am least bothered about what an ignorant ArchBishop has to say about a religion he knows nothing about.

There are Hindu separatists too, who want to secede because India is secular, and not "Hindu enough". Even they must be violently put down.

If there's no other God's exactly what would you call dieties which are not the Christian God?

The exchanges on this thread show why organized religion is a scourge on the human race. Essentially what it all boils down to is, "my god is THE God and yours is some form of Satan." Well, who knows for sure? Why can't we all agree to disagree, live and let live and let people worship whatever, whoever and however they choose to?

Give it up people, this is the same sort of crap that feeds the Muslims.

With regard to the post itself, one would think that a man "of the cloth" will preach religious tolerance and love of all people regardless of how misguided he thinks their religious practices are. It may be that this is too much to ask of former Communists. Let the people have their temple unless your God (or your faith) is so insecure that it can't possibly deal with this.

Happy New Year folks.
