The political debate and the election of 2006 are going to be about the war. And well they should be since no one knows where the president is leading us when he says stay the course. Bush got us into this mess, and he has offered no way to get us out.
If you look at present conditions in Iraq and spin out the probable trajectories, it becomes very hard to envision a victory for democracy. Since we dont know what we are doing, we are going to do the American thing. We are going to have a debate and take a vote on it. The debate has already started.
Until last month, the administration defined the reality in Iraq according to its daydream of a democratic Iraq as a shining city on a hill. Then Congressman John Murtha, the consummate hawk, called for an immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq because those troops were causing rather than quelling world terrorism.

What? Nothing about the economy?
Republicans always win on national security because the Left is invested in defeat. As much as the Left is angry about it, the American people refuse to forget 9/11.
Thanks for link.
I am perfectly happy with the Democrats receiving NO credit for US policy on the War on Terror/Iraq, etc. Sounds like they are too. I hope American remembers at the ballot box.
We win, then draw down gradually as the Iraqis take over.
You haven't heard this before?
Victory is not a strategy....Dumb$ss. /s
You've put your finger on it. "Pay no attention to that economy which we said was the worst in decades!"
Are you pinged up to the DUFU list? The DUmmies are all about impeachment right now, with no thought of what effect running on the issue will have on a Congressional candidate. Give 'em all the rope they can carry.
Yeah! When your political foes is busy planting landmines right under his own feet, DO NOT try and stop him.

Are these losers telling us a MONTH after President Bush made public the N.S.C's "National Plan for Victory in Iraq" they STILL have not read it? Any they think voters are going to trust THEM with power?
They tried running on it in 2002. Didn't work out too well for them.

Damn, even retarded people are capable of learning from failure.
The Democrats: Phantom Menaces in an Empire Strikes Back world!
The Dems will be running from this debate on Iraq faster than Michael Jackson chasing a 7 year old boy....
Like eyewitnesses to an accident who all see the same thing differently, a debate would be good if accurately reported. Unfortunately, many of the eyewitnesses are biased toward one side.
Finally, there is someone who has actively engaged the terrorists in their lair and is aggressively taking the battle to them. Communism and Islamism are the same evil in different clothes. However, they use similar stealth tactics with an overall stratey of world domination.
We fought Communism through their surrogates in Korea and Vietnam. We are fighting the Islamist through one of their surrogates in Iraq, among other lessor known places. As in Korea and Nam we have them concentrated in a place far from our shores. They are sending warriors from around the world to engage us there. Defeating them will take time.
We are fighting them both here at home through their surrogates, although the Democrats have pretty well come out into the open. We have never lost to them militarily, and never will, but the most serious battle is here at home.
I think by election time the Democrats/Communists/Islamists will have been proven wrong often enough that the war will not be the centerpiece. Instead, it will a lytanny of many things but primarily will center on an attack of the Republicans and President Bush's integrity.
Integrity is our strong point and sleaze is theirs. Predictably, they will try to reverse that.
They keep doing the same thing but expect a different result each time.
