If Dick Cheney has a change of heart (no pun intended), the nomination is his. I much prefer him to anybody on that list.

Cheney/Rice 2008? I'd crawl over broken glass to vote for that ticket.

OTOH, McCain/Lindsey Graham? I shudder at the thought.

If Cheney decides to retire, I'm expecting the unexpected, because none on that list excite me. I suppose I prefer Allen, but he doesn't get me fired up.

My point was that a single issue like immigration, coupled with budget cutting/deficit reduction could resonate with a lot of conservatives, and even conservative Democrats (is that an oxymoron?). I think that either party ignores immigration/border security at their peril.

The man for 2008 is: Arizona House of Representatives J.D. Hayworth! He is currently chairman of the house of ways and means committee, used to be a sportscaster in Phoenix prior to his entry into the House of Reps, is STAUNCH SUPPORTER of Enforcement first illegal immigration policy (good man), and forced the dems into that vote over Iraq (SUPERB POLITICAL MOVE!)....He lives in Scottsdale and when my daughter was awarded a local award by the newspaper, he wrote her a letter from Washington congratulating her (he must have read about it in the paper). He spent 2004 dropping 100 lbs and looks fabulous. J.D. is also a born-again Christian, married to his lovely wife, Mary and has I believe 4 children, the youngest of which I knew as a classlmate of my son in 1/2nd grade. Kids tell you alot about their parents and she was a class girl and stood up for my son on a playground incident that won my heart and appreciation for all time. I'd quit my job to go stump for J.D. Hayworth! Without a doubt, if he were to run, he'd be a great candidate!

I wouldn't worry about Giuliani, since I become more convinced by the day that he isn't even going to run in 2008.

Giuliani's pro-choice position is only a small part of his problem, and isn't even the most important one in the context of a presidential race. He's an abysmal candidate on so many levels, and in this age of media-driven campaigns his superficial attributes are actually his biggest obstacles.

In a presidential race, there's simply no way in heck that this country will elect a short, bald Italian-American from New York City who wears glasses and has a minor speech impediment. It's simply not going to happen.

And if he ever managed to secure the GOP nomination in 2008, we may find ourselves in the bizarre scenario where a Democratic candidate (Mark Warner, for example) could credibly present himself as the more conservative of the two.

I think Rudy's strong handgun control beliefs would sink him with conservatives who are strong 2nd Amendment supporters (maybe most of the republican base). That is a dealbreaker for them (us).

Yep, he is my first choice, but I must admit that second amendment issues don't interest me much.

We don't have a favorite now do we????? Nahhhh! LOL

NR is referring to Rick's perceived vulnerability in his bid for re-election in 06. They are saying they don't expect him to win, and if he doesn't win his chances for Prez in 08 are 0%.
