Your idea of "just making a telephone call" only shows that you have no experience at all dealing with these people.

Well, naturally, I can't speak to your experiences, except to note that you were doing things much more complicated than just verifying a number. There is also an Internet based verification system that is in place now and requires no speaking, just clicking.

In the spirit of our collaborating (on this issue!) government, that verification system has been intentionally delayed and rolled out in baby steps to just a few states at a time, and what's more has continued as only "voluntary" when a simple requirement to make it mandatory would effect the process I described earlier (verifying an employee's right to work here).

I like your spirited debate, but I don't think even you can successfully argue that a phone call or simple Internet verification of a number is an onerous burden in any but the most selected cases.

...The number you cite ($89,000) is a first generation only figure .... with the next generation producing a net surplus of $75,000 per desdendant....

Great! You CONCEDE that each illegal costs the taxpayer $89,000, but say "Don't worry, decades from now you'll partially make it back from that twinkle in his eye, the American citizens he will produce, likely out of wedlock and unlikely to finish high school".

Is that the bargain you are offering? It doesn't seem like a very good deal, does it?

And anyway, I thought with the Guest Worker programs they went back home after 6 years. It sounds like you expect them to stay and procreate. How is that?

So I guess you are back from your whinefest with the mods?

I wonder if Wal-Mart had your attitude after they got rousted. Some people just can't obey the rules. Then when they get busted they try to find out who ratted on them.

Seriously. Did the mod kiss its boo boo away and make it all better for baby?

You are sooooo pristine pure and have NEVER launched a personal attack on anyone here like......., uhhhh............., "me" for instance?

How pathetically hypocritical. If I respected you, you would make me retch. As it is, you simply amuse me.

NO baby should be without a name.... I shall have to find one for you. This should be fun.

How about "Gerber" after the kid on the jar? We could call you "Gerbie" in affection. It can be a constant security to you. Imagine the warm happiness for baby to remind you that a trip to the mods is just a quick click away. Mods will protect baby from mean responses if baby posts stupid vindictive tripe like about selling out the country to criminals. See ya, Gerbie.

Honestly, if I thought the social security dept could hit its own a*s with both hands, I would think it is a great thing for voluntary compliance. Where is this website, anyway? I want to run some checks on some clients, just for grins.

Actually I enjoy your posts.....

That one reminds me of the time in the ninth grade when I got the living hell beat out of me by 4 black guys (it was the first year of segregation in my HS in Alabama). Then, one of they guys later told the principal he "really liked me as a friend."

It is great to be loved.

Happy New Year, anyway!

Where is this website, anyway? I want to run some checks on some clients, just for grins.

Here is a link to a page operated by Numbers USA called SmartBusinessPractices.com. It gives the three step instructions needed to register and use the system. I see that the system is now available in all 50 states, last I heard it was about six states, glad to see it has expanded.

Furthermore, the law just passed by Congress (the one authorizing the fence on the border) will make use of this system mandatory within two years (great news!!!(if approved by Senate and Pres, of course))

Lastly, from F.A.I.R. (reform group) here's a description of the Basic Pilot Program (as the system is called) plus a link to FAIR'S site for more info on employee verification.

Below is an excerpt from the verification article at FAIR:

The resulting document verification system is called the Basic Pilot program. Within three working days of hiring a new employee, a participating employer electronically submits a new employee’s Social Security number, name, and birth date to the Social Security Administration (SSA) to be checked against its database.

If the employee is foreign-born, the data is also sent to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—previously to the INS—to verify that the new employee is in a legal work status, e.g. immigrant, temporary worker, or refugee. Within a few days, a response comes back indicating either that the employee has been identified and is authorized to work, or that authorization cannot be made.

In the latter case, the employee must be informed and is given eight work days to contact the SSA and/or the DHS to reconcile any incorrect data in the agency’s database. If the discrepancy is not reconciled after ten days, the employer is notified that the employee is not authorized to work. The employer then must either terminate the employee or become subject to sanctions for knowingly employing an illegal alien, unless it can be proven that the government erred.

This verification system is modeled on a program called SAVE, used by state and local governmental agencies that administer federal welfare programs. Those agencies have been required since 1986 to verify with immigration authorities that recipients of federal welfare benefits are not illegal aliens.[1] The Basic Pilot verification program for employers is run by the same office that administers the SAVE program.[2] When the Basic Pilot program was first established in November 1997, it was limited to employers in California, New York, Texas, New Jersey, and Florida. As a result of a request from the Nebraska congressional delegation, it was later expanded to include that state.

In 1999, the INS contracted for an outside evaluation of the program.[3] That evaluation, completed in June 2002, found that the employers participating in the program were satisfied with its operation and that it was achieving its objective with only minor drawbacks. In November 2003, Congress reauthorized the project for an additional five years and expanded its scope to be available to employers nationwide over the next year. The legislation also called on the DHS to submit a report on how it planned to expand the project to the additional states and on what steps it has taken to address the drawbacks identified in the evaluation report.

“Since its inception, the voluntary Basic Pilot Program has provided a ‘safe harbor’ for employers in the complicated and often confusing area of employment verification. While the law requires employers to verify documents for each hire that indicate authorization to work, the complexity of documents, the ease of forgeries and counterfeiting and the steep penalties against inquiring too far and violating a legitimate worker’s civil rights make this area a potential quagmire for unsuspecting employers. The Basic Pilot allows employers to quickly and easily check with immigration and social security databases to verify eligibility. Many employers rely on this system to fulfill their legal obligations.” --R. Bruce Josten, Executive Vice President, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, October 17, 2003

How old are you? I haven't heard taunts like that since junior high school.

But at least I haven't read any obscenities from you since your post was zapped. Are you afraid you might get banned for good and have to come back as a brand-new baby freeper?

And that's all it takes when you are dealing with errant schoolboys, just a rap across the knuckles with a ruler.

That's why I expect that a little bit of law enforcement against folks like Wal-Mart should go a long way. The other lawbreakers like them will soon fall in line.

It is the illegal immigration that is the problem not the legal immigration! The illegals out number the legal immigrants that come in from Mexico. Lawbreakers should be deported plain and simple. The Bush lie is the half truth he keeps telling that American workers wont do the jobs the Mexicans are.....at a slightly more than minimum wage payscale! Bush stops at the first half therefore failing to tell the whole truth. Of course if you are used to making 40 cents an hour and living in a 100 square foot tin shack then 6 dollars an hour would seem great!

I rent my first home out in chandler Arizona. About 50 illegals moved in next door and it has cost me thousands in legal expenses and threats to those that live there. The cops will not and can not do anything or they will be sued and fired. The illegal aliens that live there make major bucks selling drugs at all hours... but I guess those are jobs that americans won't do.

I've had to write off the house, and write off my support of McStain because of his non-american stance on this issue.

Real americans are being hurt daily from this deluge of criminals.... but your a racist for even trying to do the right thing!

When the next attack happens, and they are proven to come over the 'border', I guess we'll have to be satisied with a 'I told you so'

But McStain won't care.... He is never in Arizona long enough to be in danger of being caught up in it.
