Scott Peterson's parents hire appellate lawyers

MODESTO, Calif. - The parents of condemned murderer Scott Peterson hired two noted attorneys to begin his appeals.

"Since he is innocent, we don't want him sitting there any longer than he has to," Lee Peterson, the former fertilizer salesman's father, said Tuesday.

Peterson was convicted Nov. 12, 2004, in the murders of his pregnant wife, Laci, and the fetus she carried.

Death sentences are automatically appealed in California, but it can sometimes take several years for inmates to receive a state-appointed attorney.

Peterson's trial lawyer Mark Geragos could have handled the appeals but said he felt the case warrants "a fresh set of eyes."

The Petersons hired attorneys Cliff Gardner and Lawrence Gibbs, who represent the Menendez brothers, convicted of murdering their parents in Southern California in 1989.

It was already a media circus and he made it moreso.

He's tried many high profile cases, but I don't recall him winning any.

Just for your info, criminal defence lawyers in much lower-profile cases seldom do any better. Perry Mason always was a fictional character, and so are his clients, those nice, innocent, unjustly accused people.

"I don't want to hear about this case."

Best way to arrange that is to pick another thread to read.

Hildy, we need to find you a jury to sit on.

How are they paying for this appeal? Where are the Petersons getting their money from? Or, are the attorneys doing the appeal pro bono, in order to get their names in the news. Good for business? Inquiring minds want to know.

I haven't figured out (yet) where Lee Peterson gets this much money. I thought they mortgaged their house to hire Geragos? Who got the money for selling Laci's house?

Maybe they got money from interviews or articles or something like that.

one of our local rapist, featured in the book by Jack Olsen "Son" is still in jail many years later even though his parents always said he was "innocent".....

even when the old man died, his obit described his son as wrongly convicted.....even on his dad's obit....

sometimes, parents will not open their eyes and see...........

I'm sure many "women's organizations" would be happy to pay for a woman's murderer's appeal as long as it may lead to a constitutional challenge against the law that says it is legally murder when you murder an unborn child.

I would expect NOW and Planned Parenthood to be giving money and/or advice.

You are a defense lawyer's dream.

Why on Earth would you say this? I think Peterson is guilty as hell. Always did. I wish they would have given him the electric chair. I was standing up for the family, both families, who are victims as well. All I'm saying is that it's hard to judge parents who want to believe their child. I just refuse to judge them.

My apologies then as it appears I misunderstood you.

But we agree then to disagree as I do blame his patents for raising Snot to be so souless.

BTW, Snot will not get the electric chair which alas, California does not utilize to deal with its garbage problem.

But he has been sentenced to lethal injection ........ which means life in prison.

patents = Snots' parents who actually are not patented to my knowledge.
