MISSION — U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said Tuesday that building a fence along the southwest border is unrealistic and ultimately would not deter illegal immigration into the United States.

Cornyn along with Kyl authors of S 1438 which, under Title V, uses an outright "non-immigrant temporary worker program" and "deferred mandatory departure" under Title VI which is blatant amnesty for illegal aliens. This bill needs to be defeated and these two Senators need to be defeated when they are up for reelection.

Ah, but that is the point. Incentive (for them) will still be there. Making more unenforced or under enforced laws mean nothing to those that disregard what laws we now have.

As long as it's better here, and it always will be, there will be incentive.

Senate Cornyn is NOT A RINO. He's very conservative. Just 'cause his views are different than yours doesn't make him a RINO.

You are correct.

Cornyn is a Republican...he is not a Conservative.

A Conservative does not sell out their beliefs or constituients for political favor...nor do they trade "Blood for Cheap Lettuce", or support any Shamnesty without security or removal of the Illegals already here!

No, Cornyn has shown himself to be another "Brokeback Republican".

I do understand. I do like most of his stands on issues. Not this one, he's just part of that GOP political machine...which IMHO, is driving us down a road we'll end up all having to fight against...one way or another.

Do you think a fence will stop all smuggling of illegal drugs into the United States? If not, why would it stop illegal aliens?

It would stop 98%, and that is fine with me. Just like guards, vault doors and alarms stop most bank robberies...even if commandos *could* tunnel in.

Yet those foolish banks continue to "waste" their money on guards, vaults, doors and alarms.

Even if they don't stop *all* robberies.

Just as you have locks on your home's doors and windows, even though a determined crook could still break in.

Your cognitive dissonance in action is actually fun to watch.

Interesting - so, why are we still using fences, walls, etc. to keep people out? Because they still work and they are a lot cheaper than hiring people to keep people out.

Exactly, everywhere you go there's fences. They must be there for a reason...

You can Google. Estimates range 1 to 8 Billion, depending on which version. The fence that is now on the table is estimated at 2.

I'm a hard ass on this issue because I'm tired of my country being trashed and ruined by open borders supporters.

It's no LOL matter to me.

Perhaps..but do you think states without a border with Mexico will pony up?

Gee, ask Taxachusetts...after all, the NATION ponied up for the Big Dig that is now being reassessed for another 75 MILLION extra over it's previously overblaoted 14.6 (now 14.7) BIILION, all thanks to DemonRAT pork spending!

It was "proposed" to be 2.2 Billion in 1983. How can we not build a fence? How can Mass-holes NOT be required to help pay for it?

But if enact a system of laws which rewards being here legally if they're needed and punishes them severely for being here illegally, then you've removed the incentive to coming here illegally.

Currently, we have a weak set of laws which provide little deterrent effect. If you're caught sneaking across the border, you're deported the next day. Repeat as needed until you're not caught.

Get caught in an interior city, spend a night in jail, and get a court date to show up for a deportation hearing. Skip, perhaps moving to another city.

Add to the fact that major cities often have a policy of not inquiring about citizenship status, or if accidentally discovering it, doing nothing about it.

There are a whole host of incentives and disincentives we could create to make illegal immigration the least desirable way to enter the US. Right now, it's the most desirable way.

But you assume anyone that questions the wisdom of a fence are 'open border supporters', when they are not and then you dazzle them with your sharp tongue. I just think there are better ways to carry on a conversation. Have a nice day.

The term Rockefeller Republican comes to mind.

Send a note to Cornyn. Let them know how you feel, and STOP sending them money!

OK...he's conservative on some issues and others he's not....just a typical politician, IMHO. A true conservative will NOT settle on somethin' against their own beliefs....that I understand.

However, I've appreciated him standing up on oh so many issues defeating W. I wasn't happy voting for him 'cause I knew he was part of that big old GOP political machine in Texas. I did vote for him and will again, unless someone else runs that's a proven conservative and is a republican.

That is just it...if the government builds this fence, it will probably cost more than the stupid Big Dig. I just wish we would try enforcing tougher immigration laws and strengthening the border patrols etc. before we jump into building a fence across the whole southern US! Most of the people on this thread have not even bothered to go read Cornyn/Kyl's bill.

I have no cognitive dissonance on the matter. I told you three easy ways I could into the US with your fence up and you just blew them off.

If building your magic fence would solve the problem of illegal immigration, I'd be right there with you with a shovel in my hand ready to start. Did you know there are isolated airstrips in south Texas where airplanes from Mexico arrive at night with full protection from county law enforcement? The cargo isn't primarily illegal aliens at present, but it is illegal. Better build that fence REALLY high.

You're really getting nowhere with your poorly reasoned "but it won't stop them all" defeatist arguments. You're well past the point of desperation.

The hole is deep enough. You may want to consider a halt to the digging. By now, you're definitely starting to sound a bit on the pro-illegal side.

I'm assuming it's a place you don't want to be, but you're making it difficult for me to sustain that assumption.

I suppose I'm well beyond the point of thinking I can convince many of you that a fence won't solve the problem. So perhaps I will take your suggestion to quit trying.

the Kyl/Cornyn bill requires Mexico to foot their medical bills while here in the US.

Where did you read that? I can't find anything that states that Mexico will pay for anything.
