BREAKING Israel attacks terror base IN LEBANON

JERUSALEM - Israeli jets attacked a Palestinian militant group's training base in southern Lebanon early Wednesday, hours after an Israeli border town was hit by rocket fire, the military said.

The base located south of Beirut is operated by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a small group that has been waging a decades long fight against the Jewish state.

"This is in response to the firing of projectile rockets last night toward Israeli communities," the military said.

It said it views such attacks with "extreme severity" and holds Lebanon responsible.

There was no immediate word on casualties or damage in the strike, launched after three rockets landed in a residential area of Kiryat Shemona. The army said the rockets damaged some property but caused no injuries.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Both Hezbollah guerrillas and Palestinian militants operate in nearby southern Lebanon.

The raid came a month after Israeli jets attacked a command post of the Hezbollah guerrilla group in south Lebanon, responding to Hezbollah rocket and mortar attacks that wounded 11 Israeli soldiers and damaged a house in a border community.

Israel withdrew from an occupied enclave in southern Lebanon in 2000. While fighting in the area has dropped since then, the border remains tense and Hezbollah frequently targets Israeli troops in the disputed Chebaa Farms area.

Lebanon and Syria say Chebaa Farms is Lebanese territory, but U.N. cartographers who surveyed the border after the Israeli withdrawal said it belongs to that part of Syria which Israel has occupied since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. Israel says it will discuss control of the area only in future peace talks with Syria.

I am "Lebanese-American" (I don't go for hyphenated names--I'm American), and I think the Israelis have the right to protect themselves from which ever direction is necessary. Focus on what is real and don't be so sensitive.

I read the entire thread and there isn't a BDA. Maybe too early for that?

Back in the old days, when we had to use smoke signals) after walking to our computers in the snow uphill both ways...well you get the picture....we didn't have a side bar like we do now.

We could tell that something was hot because when you scrolled down the "messages" thread it would have lots of responses. So each time a thread is responded to, it goes to the top so that others just logging in can see it.

So, if you had not relevant comment but wanted to alert other freepers to the news you would "bump" the thread or shorthand bttt form back to the top.

For nonbreaking or old threads it can still be used to call attention to a thread.

yes, and if Bush condemns Israel for this, he should join Howard Dean. The only way to really win this War is to destroy Iran........that will send a strong message to the rest of the thugs.

Lebanon is a country that:

1. Was cheered just a short time ago by Freepers enthusiastic about ridding themselves of the influence of Islamic radicals.

... and:

2. Got their president assassinated by Syria for doing it.

1. Who's against Lebanon? We just like to see Israel taking the necessary steps to defend herself.

2. The assassination of Hariri TOUCHED OFF the rejection of Syrian hegemony, and was not a result of it.

Looks as if the accurately delivered ordnance FTGO, unfortunately.

Unless it was one of those big, beautiful Concrete Bombs.

I don't know that anyone is going to be able to stay out of The Last Battle, whether we want to or not. I agree, it looks like the nuclear clock is inching toward midnight again. POower vacuums are a bitch, and it makes one long for the simple days of the cold war.

I thought it was interesting reading some leftists take on the movie that violence begets violence. I had to agree! The mass murder of the Israeli Athletes certainly did bring down violence on the heads of the palithugs.

According to the liberals, after pearl harbor, America should think hard about why it got attacked by Japan. Hmmm, must years of oppression against Japan, I guess?

Of course, it was very simple. Japan was forced to go to war against US after we embargoed the oil supply that they needed to survive. What choice did they have? And then we comitted the greatest war crime in history against them. I'm being sarcastic.

We killed roughly 40,000 individuals in the nuke strikes. We did it so we didn't have to lose a million in the invasion. For those who don't think America losing a million is a bad thing, I would point out that if we were going to lose a million, think how many Japanese would have died in such an invasion.

The Nuke was a humanitarian gesture.

Condi: "We regret this rash decision on the part of Israel. The world is on notice that the US no longer has any control or influence over Israel."

“When did Israel go stupid? I am Lebanese-American and I have always admired and supported Israel. The Israelis are intelligent, so why have they gone stupid now?

Why hold Lebanon responsible? It is Iran and Syria who are the muscle and the money behind Hezbollah. This is like Bush turning his head the other way while Iran and Syria build IEDs and funnel thugs into Iraq to kill American troops.”

Israel went “stupid” when their civilians started getting shelled, again.

If Lebanon isn’t in control of the PFLP terror camps in their midsts, then they should be grateful to Israel for taking them out.

Your argument is like Mahmoud Abbas and the PA’s claims that they don’t control Palestinian terror so Israel should not respond to terror and rocket attacks on its citizens. Too bad. Israel’s first responsibility is to protect its citizens.

What excuses would you accept if your family was being shelled?

Re - "... some proof that the Saudis control US foreign policy..."

Oh, it's probably out there - but I have certainly seen some interesting "coincidences" lately.

Perhaps not a sufficient preponderance of evidence to convict, but sure as the dickens some "reasonable suspicion" if not "probable cause" as we used to say in the blue-light business.

How come, for instance, the initial "shock and awe" of the Iraq incursion suddenly backed off to "irritate and annoy"?

Why were Saddamn's loyal "Republican Guard" not ahnihilated when we had an excellent oppourtunity to "Moab" them to well-deserved oblivion?
Aren't these the guys who make up most of the current "insurgency", having perpetrated some of the most horrendous attrocities on their own people for some 30 years?

Why is the Sunni Triangle still standing and populated with living things, for cripe's sakes?

Why was Falluja sealed off, cleared of Women and Children, then the Marines were suddenly ordered to turn tail and the "invasion" postponed for about a year - then done with ground forces and high American casualties - after, I suspect, the real AlQuida ringleaders had plenty of warning to get out of Dodge?

From what I'm hearing, the terrorists lost little time in moving right back in to Falluja after that operation was over.

Patton would not have left one brick stuck to another in that festering rathole of AlQuida. There would be nothing left for the creeps to move back into, and local residents of other communities might be a little less tolerant to terrorist domination if it meant they might lose their town for it.

Worked in Germany with the nazi "werewolves" in 1945-6, we're told.

Patton didn't care much for "no go zones" - if "insurgents" gave Allied forces such a hard time in any city or village that they could not occupy it without significant casualties, he just called in a Battery of Arty or a squadron of P-47s and levelled the joint.

It's amazing what extermination of a hostile community will do to reduce problems therein.

Patton wasn't much of a "Hearts and Minds" kind of General - but he knew how to WIN, didn't he?

So who if not the Saudis, who have the US economy bent conveniently over their oil barrel, keeps calling the White House telling them to back off if and when we get too close to hurting their syndicated pals and interests in the Sunni or pali World?

And just who put the pressure on Israel to abandon those West Bank Settlements?

You can assume that it was Sharon's idea entirely, and you'd be entitled to I suppose... but I don't for a minute.

Wasn't Secretary RICE over there having a heart-to-heart chat with Sharon just before that deal broke in the papers?
And who might we suppose put our State Dept. up to that debacle, might we suppose?

Canada? France?

Right....

And now the Palinazis not only have terrorist training camps and rocket batteries set up where flourishing Jewish gardens and Synagogs recently used to stand, but it appears that they are on the verge of taking over such a sham of "Government" that the Palistinian collective refugee center might have had.

And how many billions of American dollars have gone into said "Palistinian Authority" for all sorts of assistance, most of which seems to end up in the hands of Hezbollah in the form of weapons (or in Yassar Assafatt's Swiss bank account)?

And how many of said weapons are being used currently to kill and maim our own Troops over in Iraq, as well as innocent Jews on the other side of the wall?

Funding our enemies to kill our own Sons and Daughters, not to mention our "Allies"; now that makes a lot of sense, dosen't it?

If the Klintons still reigned in Washington, I could see it; but I don't think that our current POTUS would put up with such foolishness...

unless he had to, that is.

If you know of any international power with that sort of influence on American Forign policy other than Saudi Arabia, then I'd be interested in hearing about your theory.

(Hell; I try to keep a pretty open mind for an old Yankee Conservative.)

Because I can't think of any other reason why we keep Israel on our right tit while kicking it in the arse with our left foot since about 1948 - other than the possibility that our government really IS that stupid.

Well, yeah...
