Online retailer Amazon.com offered up the results of the 2005 holiday shopping season with the news that three different Apple iPod models owned the three top spots in electronic sales. The iPod nano, video iPod and iPod shuffle all took top honors.

Amazon.com reports that more than 108 million items were ordered worldwide during its 11th holiday season. A single-day record was set on December 12, 2005 — 3.6 million items ordered, or 41 items per second.

“iPods ruled the holiday season in Electronics, owning the top three spots,” reported Amazon.com in a press release announcing the results. Amazon points to a mysterious “3GB” iPod nano in black (iPod nanos only come in 2GB and 4GB capacities), the black 30GB iPod and the 512MB iPod shuffle as the top sellers in the Electronics category.

Daughter #2, age 20.5, got the iPod Shuffle from her uncle. It's a nifty little gadget. I was most impressed with the sound from the headphones. It actually sounded like the music was playing IN my head.

MY daughter gave me a set of Bose TriPort headphones for Christmas this year... They make the iPod sound like a live concert hall. It's great when they grow up and become wage-earners!

We gave our daughter the video 30G for Christmas. The video clarity is amazing. She loaded 3000 songs for the trip home and is only half full. The road trip and/or itrip thingys are a must.

My Dell DJ was destroyed recently(great machine but nothing with a hard drive could have survived the fall). Now looking at a Nano simply because it is the largest solid state unit without a microphone out there.

The issues over scratch screens are holding me back. Its also Apple, which means paying for their reputation and not just their product and liberal leanings. That said, once they announce the next models I will step up and my a current one.

Well my son and I both have one and neither has any scratches on them at all. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. It's my first ipod and I think it it the coolest thing ever.

I ordered the Toshiba 40GB Gigabeat MP3 player. It only cost $ 239 at Amazon which was a 100 cheaper than last years Ipod 20 GB model. Plus it is color screen and can view dvd's. Decided IPOD was too fragile, had a rep for getiing broken easily and too expensive. Plus not interested in I tunes. Have tons of mp3 downloaded from cd's etc to make playlists from.
The Toshiba can rip direct from a cd. Great way to store your cd collection.

I knew headphones varied in quality, but I don't think I knew they could be THAT good. And the Bose are better?

Given where and how I carry an MP3 player, I am going with a flash memory player, and for now Apple has the biggest one. In another few months I am thinking there will be competitors at a better price.

Itunes? We don't need no stinking iTunes?

The Ipod Nano screen apparently scratches more easily than the other Ipods. Think there is a class action suit already filed.

I'm sure the technical specs would indicate otherwise, but my ears think the Bose headphones are delivering sound quality similar to my Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers in my family room.

Maybe one of the DUmmies can compare the sound of the iPod with the sound of the voices already inside his head.
