I can understand media bias designed to block a bill that one can reasonably object to, but what possible purpose does lying about ANWR serve?

what possible purpose does lying about ANWR serve? Its not just about ANWR. Its all about protecting the Democratic Pary and their constituents. The vast majority of the liberal media votes Democratic and routinely slants their reporting to support the liberal agenda, whatever it may be. The media writes lies and distorts the news all the time, only in this instance its about pictures. ANWR is an interesting case. I believe there's something like 10B barrels of oil up there just waiting to be extracted. A littly lying about ANWR serves multiple purposes: cast Bush and Republicans as being out to destroy the environmment; keep energy prices high to make Bush look bad; suppress positive news about Republicans trying to solve the domestic enery problem; protect the intrests of the party-supporting environmentalists.

ANWR would show that America can become once again energy
independent. Who does not want that to happen?
Righhhht, the A-rabs. How much Saudi Arabian money do you think might have found its way into the "campaign" coffers of the Congressmen who voted against tapping the vast oil reserves in Alaska.
Ted Stevens from Alaska and chairman of the Appropriations Committee was so mad he threatened to take away taxpayers dollars from the pork projects of the Senators who voted against drilling in Alaska, so some good might come from it after all.
