My firm routinely throws away vast quantities of expensive catered food - we tried to donate it, but it's not acceptable. Something about us not being a food-service company, so they can't be sure we've followed food-safety practices.

Do you wonder how they cleaned up the commissary on Keelser AFB after Katrina? Did they go through it and pick out the undamaged canned food or other salvageable stuff?

To me that is just sad. Probably someone got reprimanded about allowing our food to be served. It's just such a waste to let perfectly good food go unused when there is a genuine need out there.
