Boeing sipped a double shot of good news Friday, sealing up a billion-dollar support contract for a Navy fighter and reportedly nearing a $10 billion pact to supply planes to Singapore Air.

The Navy contract was confirmed Thursday night in Washington. Boeing will provide logistics support for the Super Hornet fighter jet for an initial five years for $995 million. If all options are exercised, the deal could run 10 years and be worth $2.9 billion.

The Singapore Air deal was reported Friday in the Wall Street Journal. According to the paper, Boeing is poised to beat out Airbus to supply up to 80 long-range jets on a firm-order basis. Options could bring the total order to as much as 110 jets.

If Boeing captured the contract it would be another chapter in its recent revival against Europe's Airbus. Boeing recently announced an order for up to 115 long-range planes with Qantas Airlines.

Boeing shares closed at $71.32 Thursday, about 50 cents below its 52-week high

Great news for Boeing's defense business as well.

Could we see the first orders for the new 747 advanced passenger jet as well in the Singpore deal? I heard a mix of 787 and 777 planes were being considered for the Singpore deal. Airbust was trying to get them to buy more A380's and pushing the A350.

I'm sure all the democrats are depressed at this news. The US economy is struting more and more.
