They are really pretty good. It doesn't take too many to get enough, but my grandmother made them, and a lot of other people back then. Folks didn't waste much in those days. I was a boy growing up in the late thirties and the forties. Somehow I got to be thirteen in 1950 and had those golden teens in the midsouth listening to Elvis and all the other country and R&B greats of that period. Of course, all the while I was eating watermelon.

I love neat old guys like you. I grew up much later, but still have the same memories of eating good watermelon.

Life has been good, after a hard start. Everyone had it pretty rough back when I was born. It was soon after the depression, but for some of us who grew up in rural areas, it was not so bad. We could hunt, fish, and raise plenty of food. I wouldn't have wanted to have been born at any other period of history. The accomplishments of the United States and her citizens have been nothing short of miraculous.
